Jackie Chan: Stuntmaster
Review by J J N
"Wanna be like Jackie Chan? Now you can!"
Introduction
Jackie Chan: Stun Master lives up to its name because they are plenty of major stunts thrown at you’re again and again in the game. This game is great for the younger age because it is fun to play (who could resist playing the role of Jackie Chan?), and it also provides a challenge for older audience because of difficulties it poses.
Game Play
This is a ground with 3-d roaming environment. Mr. Chan has a plethora of techniques he uses to fight the baddies, which includes throws, punches, locks, blocks and combos. The fight moves look very impressive (acrobatic maneuvers that accurately exhibit his style).
As Jackie proceeds into the game he learns more difficult and impress new moves.
Jackie can also pick varies weapons from the game which includes sticks and pots and even a fish! He utilize the weapons very well in a creative manner – like he does in the movie.
The copious opponents that are stationed through out the game proved to be worthy opponents because they AI is good. Fighting them is not too hard and not too easy. Some baddies will encounter you and fight; while others run off and call their buddies.
Besides from beating up baddies, you have to perform stunts to successfully pass the levels. You have to jump from roof tops to roof tops, swing around plenty of metal rods and dodge swinging barrels (which can knock you out) and run away from trains and cars. Sounds exciting? Sure is!
Story
The story is about a national underground syndicate that kidnaps your … grand father! You know this because at the beginging of the game there is a FMV of Jackie Chan working at his grand father’s restaurant until some hoodlums kidnap him and then Jackie chase after the car . . . then the rest is for you to find out. The story is mediocre, something that has been over done many times in Jackie’s movies, but hey . . . it’s still good.
Sound
The music of this game is mediocre. Standard music that get you going during the duration of the game. Each new level has new music and the boss stage for each area (like the China Town levels) has some cool music, too. The neat thing about the sound for this game is that the voices are authentic; it’s Jackie Chan’s voice! He says witty things at the appropriate times such as “Oh, I’m going to get an head ache tommrow”, “You don’t want to mess with me!”, “I know kung-fu!”, “He won’t see me again!” and much more.
Graphics
The graphics in this game is solid, however, it lacks texture. You can see Jackie Chan’s face and his varies expressions during the game in cut scene. It’s good animation and all… but it lacks detail. I guess the developers what to give this a cartoonist appearance.
The FMVs in this game is pretty good animation – it’s solid and matches the animation type of the game. There is also plenty of cut-scene which is good also. There are many settings in the game where Mr. Chan fights the baddies, which includes rooftops, industrial complexes, fishing boats, in the streets of China Town, The Temple and much more. All the arenas are bland – then again, I think they developers wanted a cartoonish theme.
