X-Men vs. Street Fighter
Review by Myzery_Clown
"A game that was overshadowed by it's arcade brother too much to be recognized."
It's technically and figuretively no match for it's arcade pretecessor, but this game was knocked a lot because it couldn't live up to it's excellency.
GAMEPLAY 10
well, the gameplay did. The same tremendous gameplay is found here as in the arcade. The same characters are playable. The same types of moves are also here: moves, specials, and supers. The controls are smooth, responsive, and they move with a light feeling. They're a little slow sometimes, but it's easily overlooked since this is very rare. this also has the same duo combat. for some reason, i didn't find it quite as fun here as i did with the arcade version, but I think it's the same thing.
GRAPHICS 5
One area where the PSX version couldn't live up to the arcade. The graphics are horific! the most notable flaw is the frame rate. It's been slowed down dramatically and looks choppy and not in good shape. Some of the characters, particularly X-men, need some work as well. however, a sprinkling lf X-men and the majority of the Street Fighters look good. Also, when you do a super and the purple or yellow and red sunrise explodes, depending on who you're being, is very cool to look at. The backgrounds are kind of so-so. There's a few i was mostly happy with.
SOUND 6
Well, the background music is great. kind of a Street Fighter type mix with a little attitude thrown in to it for the X-men side of things. however, the sound effects are atrocious! First off, they're too quiet. This is the biggest problem. Also, some of the hia's and stuff sond cheesy and weak. you can barely hea them though because they're so quiet. sometimes I couldn'rt even here at all. What was that Wolverene? Hmmmm. cant.quite.make.it.out. However, the background music is great.
DIFFICULTY 5
The game has about average difficulty for the average gamer. I noticed that the guys didn't really get harder as the game progressed, instead they got avout the same. of course, the main boss is a great deal harder than the rest, but for the most part the game was on the easy side.
REPLAY VALUE 7
There are many modes to keep most gamers satisfied. in arcade mode you fight the same type of stuff you'd see in the arcade version of the game. VS. mode is where you and a friend fight to the death. in survival mode you have a sort of slug out. Training mode is also a welcome feature.
RENT/BUY/
The game's a great game that was severely overshadowed by the arcade that came before it. Definitely give this one a great look, a lont rent or a purchase for under $30 would definitely be appropreate. X-men VS. street Fighter is not, and won't ever be, as good as the arcade, but does that mean the game sucks? No.
