Bubsy 3D

"A disgrace to the 3D gaming community"

When I went to Massachusetts this summer, my cousin had a copy of Bubsy 3D. I popped it into the PS2 and I saw how bad this game really is. I have nothing more to say here, so on with the review...

Story:
The story is simple: You are bubsy, a cat who runs around collecting atoms and wears clothes. There are aliens who want to destroy Bubsy's planet. You must build a rocket ship to flee the planet before that happens. Now you're probably thinking: ''Well doesn't that make the game simple??'' Not at all. I could've thought up a better story than they did.

Gameplay:
Oh my. The gameplay is SO horrid. You have to go around seemingly impossible levels trying to collect pieces for your rocket ship. Simple, right? No. The enemies are so stupid, you can right in front of one and they don't attack, they're that bad. Here's an example: There are question marks spread out throughout the level. You touch one and busby says this: ''Press [insert button here] and [insert action here] will happen!!'' I do that. Oh look! I jumped! Isn't that amazing?? That's just a fraction of how bad the gameplay is.

Controls:
Bad bad bad bad BAD. The controls are so hard to master, even for the most expert of game players. Say you want to turn: You have to stop, hold the directional button to the left or right, make some popcorn, and sit back as bubsy turns very slowly without ANY movement whatsoever. There isn't a preset attack button, so you have to run your little kitty heart out to avoid enemy attacks. IMO, could have been a WHOLE lot better.

Sound:
Sound? What sound? All I hear is bubsy talking when I get to a question mark! Bubsy's rants are louder than the music on every level. Quite simply, there is no sounds except for bubsy ranting on and telling you what to do and how to do it.

Graphics:
I don't know why they called it Bubsy 3D, but it sure doesn't look 3D to me. The ground on which you walk on in this game is textured like a bad checkerboard. There is massive camera and clipping problems, and seeing the same pixilated squares all day will make you wanna break your copy of Bubsy 3D into tiny pieces and feed them to your dog.

Rent or buy?:
No, don't even put your $5 down for a rental of this. It's just not good at all. If you see this game, buy it, then break it in half to quench your anger.
