"Big orange ball of fuzz! Ah he's so cute!"
Q*Bert is a 3D puzzle type that is a remake of the classic arcade version. Let me break it down for you.
Game Play: The game play in Q*Bert is just like is has always been. I will explain it, but if you don’t know what Q*Best is, you need to go back in time and look through an arcade. Any ways, you are this, um, I actually don’t know what the balls it is... Well he is orange and as a snout and his name is Q*Bert. You start off in levels and you jump to blocks to change them a different color and complete the level.
You move just like in the original. You just jump yourself to different tiles. If you land on a swirly disk, you get teleported. Nothing hard about that, and this is the thing you will do the most. The only thing that will mess you up will be if you double back by accident.
The enemies very a lot. They can be balls that fall down in random directions, or purple snakes that relentlessly follow you. Or the infamous green thing... that un-changes all your stepped on tiles. Other things would include enemies that are unique to that level, like fall tires and tiki masked enemies.
The game is set up into four sets of about six levels each. Each level past the first set of levels is different that the last. These levels range from snow capped levels with ice, levels with fire coming from volcanoes, and high teck levels with buildings and all.
If you liked the arcade classic, then this game should be nothing new to you.
Good
Challenge:
This is what I like about this game. The game is difficult as all hell but isn’t that cheap if you know how to play. Some people may say how it is cheap how a ball just will fall on your head, but they all leave shadows right before hand... Others may say hitting the on and off blocks may be cheap, but for those you need to think. There is some times then random purple guys will box you in when there is nothing you can do, but most of the time it doesn’t happen. The only easy part about this game is that on easy you get seven lives to screw around with. This makes the game playable if you did so happen to suck at it and get frustrated a lot from dying.
Outstanding
Control:
The control in this game is perfect, but you might screw up due to hitting the middle of two directional keys at the same time. If you change your controls to make Q*Bert jump on an axis, then you should hold your control at an angle. Other than that, I think the X key might be used to use items.
Great
Story:
Q*Bert isn’t really a game about story, but there is a little. You are in “town” I guess and you see your little place get ripped apart. You also see your friends get taken away. That’s all that really happens.
Lacking
Visuals:
This game isn’t that bad on the eyes. Q*Bert looks great in this game and so cute too.
The levels are designed pretty good outside of the squares too, but this shouldn’t matter that much in a game like this, since it started out as so little...
Good
Audio:
The sound effects in this game aren’t that great. Want to know how Q*Bert talks? Well in his speak balloons are things like this “$%&#@” and he makes a funny noise, that’s all.
But the music in this game is excellent. Never before in a puzzle game like this have I heard this kind of great music. You’ll love this odd type of techno or what ever else it shots out at you.
Good
Re playability:
Have I beat this game, I never really played it a again...
However, I think there is a two player mode to this game, but I never actually had someone play it with me so I wouldn’t really know what it is like...
Below Average
Pros:
Hell, it’s Q*Bert
New improvements on a classic game.
Great music
Cons:
The game may be too hard or boring for some people.
Every level has the same purpose.
Rent or Buy:
I would rent this game to see how you like it. But at this time and age the price is probably cheap and I picked it up for 15$. But it is you like classic rehashes of games... (Like Frogger, Centipede, you know)
Final Rating:
I give this game a seven out of ten, it just could of used a little more extra things to add.
