Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
Review by Cloud89
"One of my favorite RPGs!"
Introduction: This game was made by a company called, Working Designs. The creator said he got some ideas from Star Wars for this game. This game is a remake of the one on the Sega CD called, Lunar: Silver Star Story. It is totally re mastered with FMVs, voices, and better sound effects. It comes in a box with lots of stuff in it like: a cloth map, a hard cover manual that has: drawings of: characters, environments, it tells you all of the spells the characters can learn, and a little walkthrough for the first hour or so. It also has a music CD so you can listen to the music from the game which is very good, a making of Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete CD, which tells you how they made the characters, who did the voices, how they made the environments, sounds, and other stuff like that.
Story: This game has a very good story. It has love, sorrow, evilness, happiness, humor, and action. The story is about a boy who turns in to something greater then what he is now. I will not tell anymore of the story for spoiler reasons. There are times when there are mysteries to be solved, and in other times when there's a lot of action were you need to battle. At times they throw a couple plot twists at you when you think that you know what the story is going to be about but it is not. It has times where there is something funny happening, while at other times there are sad points. I find that the story in this game is better then some Final Fantasy's. The characters in this game fit with the story very well. Some are happy some are cool, some are mean, and others are noisy. There is a big surprise at the end of the story. Overall, I find the story very enjoyable. 10/10
Graphics: One word, ''Old school'', but in a good way. The graphics are old and some what crusty, but it goes with the charm of the game. The characters look crusty in the game, but when the FMVs come on, they look very well done. The FMVs are all in 2d anime style, and are well done. Also in the FMVs, the surroundings look 3d. In the game the environments are also in old school graphics, but have some what have a 3d feel to it. Overall, I loved the graphics. 10/10
Sound: This game has some of the best game music that I have ever heard, next to Chrono Trigger and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete. It has music for every emotion like: anger, love, sadness, happiness, death, life, and many more. Mostly the music is instrumental, but there are some vocal ones. The music in the FMVs are also very good. The voices for the game characters are excellent, they could not have been better. The sound effects are very good too from: magic spells to swords being slashed. Background sounds are pretty good too like: water, factory's, to fields and forests, to ships and stuff like that. The over world map music is very good. The music in villages fit with the village themes. In dungeons, the music fits with the mood of the dungeon. Overall, the music is a masterpiece in its self. 10/10
Controls: This game has very good control, you can move: N, NW, W, SW, S, SE, E, NE, You can go in any direction you want. Working the menus aren't hard at all. In battle the controls are very easy too, you can choose: attack, defend, use spells, use items, or let the game AI do it for you. Walking on the over world map is not hard at all, it is very easy. In dungeons, the controls are also easy. Overall, the controls are very easy to work with. 10/10
Gameplay: Here is where the game shines bright like the sun. There are a couple of mini games, which are fun. It is fun to watch how the characters mature throughout the game. The characters in this game make the game more enjoyable. It is fun to go through dungeons to find treasure chests and to level up. This game is not a dungeon game, you can explore the over world map too. The over world map is a not point and click map, it's a free roaming map. The dungeons are quite large at times, but not overwhelming. The battles are fun in this game especially when the game characters call out their attacks. This game can last from 40 to 80 hours, it depends on how you play, or longer if you want 100% complete. Overall, I found that there is lots to do in this game. 10/10
Re playability: This game is fun to replay. It is a rpg, which usually means you sometimes you have a ending save file so you can go and get things that you missed, but sadly this game doesn't have one, but it's fun to make a new file and go through dungeons to get all the treasures, or just to enjoy the story again. This is a game you can just play over and over again, if you like rpgs that is. Overall, I find myself still playing game this a lot. 10/10
Overall: I found this to be one of the best rpgs I have ever played next to its sequel that is, and I have played Final Fantasy's, Dragon Warriors, Breath of Fires, Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. I find this game to be very enjoyable, you just can't put it down. It even comes with: a cloth map, a music cd, a making of the game, and a couple of other stuff. The manual is hardcover and has pictures of the characters and the environments. If you liked Lunar 2 Eternal Blue Complete you will like this one. I love this game, if you find it, buy it you'll be glad you did. Complete Overall, It's one of my favorite games. 10/10
