Vigilante 8

"More fun than blowing up cars in real life!"

There can't possibly be a person on earth that doesn't want to just hoon around in a car, blow everything they see up and make other people's cars explode into flames whilst they're still driving them. Vigilante 8 is one of the best games for letting you live out your urges.

The whole feel of this game is just downright stylish, it has a very 70's feel to it, with all of those big noisy cars just waiting for you to blow the **** out of them. The weapons all look very nice, although at times it can be hard to tell which one you're using as they can appear identical now and again. The explosions (there is a lot of them) look really cool, you can almost feel the heat from the big fires! It has a good frame rate and overall the graphics are excellent. I'd have to give it a nine out of ten.

The sound is nothing special, just the usual stuff that people would expect. Noisy cars, a few explosions here and there. It's nothing to write home about, but not bad nonetheless. Seven out of ten for the sound.

The gameplay is just superb. Everyone who buys the game will just love it. You bought the game for a reason. Blowing stuff up. And you get it by the truckloads. But if you're not into this sort of thing you'll probably tire of the game within a week. It's just a matter of tastes. The gameplay would also have to get a nine out of ten.

The lifespan will depend on what you thought of the gameplay, as it's written above. If you don't like this sort of game then the lifespan can be measured in minutes or hours. On the other hand, if all the car wrecks are your sort of thing then expect the CD to stay in your machine for months.

Overall, Vigilante 8 would have to nearly be the best car-combat game out there (except for it's sequel) if you like a bit of destruction then look no further. If you don't steer clear and buy Barbies Race and Ride or Spiceworld. They might be better suited to your tastes.
