"Layeth the Smacketh Down"

With the success of WrestleMania 2000, THQ and the WWF crew knew they had to create an equal (or better) game, this time for the PlayStation. Obviously, they have done this...
For the first time (I haven't played Fire Pro Wrestling G so I'm just assuming this) a wrestling game is going to have some form of CONTROVERSY. What I mean by this is that SmackDown has scripted events which can happen at any time, like you turn on your partner, or Vinnie Mac adds stipulation, or other stuff like that...

Graphics

The graphics in this game are superb... From the intro movies, to every last bit of a wrestler, the graphics rock! Aside from minor glitches, the graphics are just... let me put it this way - PERFECT!

Sound

Besides the lack of commentary, the sound kicks a**. From the themes, to the fan's adoration, to the chair smacking the moisty back of your opponent, this game's sound department is top notch...

Story

OK, not MUCH of a story here, but at least there's some. It's usually just where you see clips in between your matches where wrestlers are plotting something, usually a run-in.

Gameplay

I know it's just my opinion, but I do not like the grappling system that THQ uses. Although easier, you don't usually execute the desired move, usually something different... oh well, just my opinion. Aside from that, the game reacts very well and quickly.

With the exception of a few minor glitches, this game should set the standard for wrestling games. If you haven't realised already, THIS GAME ROCKS. Forget Attitude, forget Mayhem (shudder...), hell, even forget WM 2000 (should get some hate mail for this)... this game is the one to get...
