Tekken 3
Review by Greatest One
"Sure, it looks good, but it isn't very good"
Tekken 3 has been ported from the arcades to the playstation beautifully. The problem is, the game isn't that good. I am not a fan of the Tekken series and thus wouldn't know all the stories, but Tekken 3 seemed to have a few flaws.
But first, the good parts. As much as I don't like the game, I still have to admire its beauty. Tekken 3 could have the best graphics on the Playstation. In fact it looks so good, it could be mistaken for a dreamcast game. The ending fmvs are breathtaking too.
The ending fmvs are also one of the reasons, I didn't like the game. Too many characters had endings that just seemed too random. What's the point of entering a tournament and winning, if all you are going to do is practice karate on some hill? Or just continue a career of wrestling? Some of them don't make sense. I liked the Mortal Kombat 4 endings where the endings were all interlinked.
Another flaw in Tekken 3 is that it claims to be realistic fighting. Thus, you won't see too many fireballs or other crazy stuff. You just see pure martial arts fighting. Maybe the realism would have been impressive if there were realistic characters. Some of thecharacters include a panda, a tree and a tiny crocodile. Also the main boss in the game is a guy who flies around breathing fire. That's not realistic.
There are two other modes other than the normal fighting mode. In one mode, you make your way through a level fighting bad guys till you reach the boss. It is just like a side scrolling brawler. This mode just sucks. You can never seem tobe able to control where your character is moving. When you want him to go up, he goes forward. The rest is just like the normal game. The other mode is a stupid version of beach volleyball. If the ball touches the ground, you get hurt. Weird.
Thus, I feel this game isn't as great as people make it out to be.
Graphics: 9.
Can't complain here. The developers did a great job in the least important category.
Sound: 7.
Not bad, but could have been better.
Gameplay: 3.
Fighting games are known for complex controls. But some moves in this game are just too complex. Some require eight button combinations to pull off one move.
Replay value: 4.
The endings don't provide much, so its not worth playing over.
Overall: 4.
If you love fighting games, play this. If you are just a casual fan, it won't interest you.
