Vigilante 8

"The only game I believe that could compete with Twisted Metal as the king of vehicle combat."

This is another pretty rare game. I mean, whatever happened to the old Vigilante 8 series? I thought it sold pretty well, and it just up and disappeared. Well, if you were one of the lucky ones (like myself) to play this and the second title, you will know that these games were very, very fun. I mean, it challenged Twisted Metal for the king of the vehicle combat genre, but I guess it lost pretty badly for Luxoflux to just up and quit the series so suddenly only after this and Second Offense. I mean, it had everything from a bus, to a stingray. And all of the specials were so awesome...I miss this game..*tear*

Gameplay: 9/10
Vehicle combat has, and will probably always be my favorite genre overall. And Vigilante 8 had quite a lot of it, and it was a very fun game to play with friends. I mean, my favorite character easily was Sid Burn. Sid Burn was the guy with the flaming stingray. It was always a blast to duel my friend Richard in this game, because he always chose Clyde. Anyway, the gameplay here is top notch, and in my opinion, beats out Twisted Metal. There, I said it, Vigilante 8 in my opinion was more fun than Twisted Metal.

Graphics: 9/10
The graphics in Vigilante 8 were probably some of the best seen on the Playstation. The only gripes you can really say, is that the game occasionally froze. I know that probably seems to usually drop the score more than one point and it probably does not belong in the graphics, but I am putting it here. So there. But, Vigilante 8 probably froze...twice in months of playing it. It may be that I over abused the disc at times, but the game was fun and I did not just want to let it go to waste, right?

Rent or Buy:
If you can even find this game, buy it. This is another one of those rare games, since it was never really a mainstream series. But if you can find it on the Nintendo 64, it adds one more level to the game, and that is about it. But other than that, I would probably have to suggest the Playstation version, due to the fact that I think that it did not freeze as much (though I only played the N64 version a few times, but it froze once so yeah..).

My Final Word:
My final word on Vigilante 8? I believe the series should still be around, that is what my final word is! I loved this series, and I believe it could be great, but they quit after Second Offense (which I am going to review right after this). And I honestly think this game could have challenged Twisted Metal for the king of vehicle combat. But I guess the developers thought otherwise...oh well, sad to see such great games go to waste.
