Brave Fencer Musashi
Review by Alucard517
"A excellent game to add to your collection"
The tale of the well-known fencer, this game is almost certainly one of the more fun action games for ps1. Musashi being the noble hero that he is, faced a great wizard and defeated him with the Lumina sword and the “Five Scrolls”. After defeating this wizard he sealed the scrolls with “Guardians”. A certain ban of people came to the Allucaneet Kingdom and has been trying to take over the world. The kingdom had only one option, to bring back the fencer Musashi. After summoning Musashi they learned that there was a mistake, instead of the brave fencer they once knew about, came out a little kid. Your escapade is to find those “Five Scrolls” and save the world. So grab your sword and let the fun begin.

Being the Playstation you shouldn’t expect too much out of game graphics. The characters have their anime portrait when you talk to them so that is always a bonus. The levels are very well detailed, with having the outline of cities and the forests. Monsters are the weirder of the graphics. They don’t have too much detail but they make some weird sounds while fighting them. Square didn’t take the time to put any FMV’s in this game so there isn’t much to back up on from the games graphics.

Voice acting is really something in this game. You can really see the comical view they try to throw in here. The little shout box even makes different shapes when there is something exciting happening in the dialog. The music isn’t one of the better features of this game but it gets the job done. The monsters make funny noises whenever you may slash at them. The sword “Lumina” even talks which is also funny cause it has a robot voice and it just kind of speaks out of nowhere to scare Musashi.
Story 7
Not too much on the story part of the game, like I said earlier you get summoned and you have to find the “Five Scrolls”. There are a bit of side quests which have some humor to them. Most of the time spent on this game was the fun factor, and not too much time on the story. It could have been better but be thankful you got something.
Game Play 9
Having the best feature award would be the game play. The fact that there is only one town to really gain your abilities and grow your collection of toys can be exasperating. You also have a quest throughout most of the game where you find these green items called bincho fields. While destroying these little green diamonds you find characters that belong at the kingdom. Your quest is to restore every lost one to the kingdom to restore it to there full. Instead of being able to purchase more weapons you are stuck with only two. Lumina and Fusion, they both have special abilities of their own, such as with Lumina you can do the damage with and with fusion you can learn abilities from the monsters you face in the game.
Another good feature of the game play is that you get tired in this game. And I'm sure you know what happens when you get tired…. You need sleep. So if you get to tired with the press of a simple button you can just fall over on the ground just about anywhere and get some sleep. If you get to tired you start to slouch over and it makes it almost impossible to continue on with your escapade.
One of the worst features is that you cannot save whenever you find a save point cause there is only one. The inn at your town, so having a lack of save points is a bad thing, so when you can make sure you save. If not you will find going through another boss battle is exasperating.

Final Overview 8
Square can make alright action RPG’s and they can make excellent ones. This game may not be a final fantasy, but I do recommend that you go and pick this game up. The fun factor in this game is amazing so hopefully you will like it too.
