Langrisser I & II

"Langrisser I and II(Der Langrisser) togather and loving it!"
Langrisser I&II
Langrisser is an import SRPG, and one of my favorite games. You goal is to defend the world from the prince of darkness, Boser. You play as Ledin in Langrisser I, and Erwin in Langrisser II.
Gameplay: 10/10 I simply love strategy games, and that is what Langrisser is all about. Like most SRPG's you control an army consisting of your main generals and their supporting armies. Your generals range from noble knights to powerful mages. At the start of each battle, all of your generals have the ability to hire mercenaries to go into battle with you. Also your generals have an area of influence around them, while their troops stay within that range they get an attack and defence bonus. Plus another importing part of Gameplay is the Class changing system, every time a general reaches level 10 they earn a promotion that can usual go one of two ways, for instance, Ledin reaches level 10 for the first time he gains a promotion, he can ether become a Knight(Horse class) of a Lord(Soldier class). One last comment on the gameplay is the system of Affinities, Horse beats Soldier, Pike beats Horse, and Soldier beats Pike. There is also Archers, Fliers, and Sea units which all have strengths and weaknesses, with all of this it makes gameplay really fun(or at least for me)!
Story: 7/10 Langrisser 1's story is really simple, prince is forced to leave home due to an attack by an evil Empire, he flees till he is strong enough to retake his home. Then he decides to counter attack, you take over the imperial capital just to get ensnared in a conflict of Light vs Darkness. But Langrisser 2 is a horse of a different color. It still has a battle between Light and Darkness, but this time you get to decide which side you will ally yourself. Your have the choice of fighting with the forces of Light, Darkness, or against both of them!
Graphics: 3/5 Langrisser I&II's graphics are an upgrade of Der Langrisser's graphics. The faces have been changed from DL to L2, but thats about it. I'm not big on graphics but the could have done better on a SNES to PSX transfer. Thats all. O yeah, I forgot the anime movie scenes!
Sound: 4/5 The music is one of my favirote games, and Langrisser I&II does a fine job of getting me into the game. The music changes from Player's Turn to Enemy's Turn, plus certain battles and or generals have their own themes. The sounds in battle are also great, the clanging of weapons and armor, a unit of archers releasing their arrows, men screaming, yeah that is some pretty good stuff.
Control: 6/10 Since this is an Import and is in Japanese, control is a big thing. Langrisser has simple to learn controls that require little or no knowledge of Japanese, the only language barrier is the names of spells, just remembering what does what. One problem I had was the pretty bad memory card access times. The main reason I gave Control a 6 is because of those darn spells, I had some trouble finding out what they did. LOL
Re-playability: 9/10 Langrisser 1 doesn't have that much of a point of going through again but, Langrisser 2, man with 4 different main paths and many sub-paths, I'll end up playing it several times. Plus you'll need a diffrent strategy on each path.
Final Verdict: 39/50 My final thought on Langrisser I&II, it is a awsome game if you are into SRPG's, if not its still a fairly good game. The series story is great and these title just scratch the surface. A great buy if you can find it.
