"A 2D-3D Hybrid"

Beyond the Beyond is a Role-Playing Game that's a lot of fun to play and perhaps one of the best RPGs on the Play station. Well, then On to my review.

GRAPHICS--10/10

Let's just say that Beyond the Beyond is a hybrid of 2D traveling and sprite-based 3D battles. When you are traveling, the graphics are like those in a Super NES RPG. When you're battling monsters, it goes into a 3D view with the camera rotating around the scene of the fight. The Monster graphics are top-notch and act like those of a 3D RPG like Final Fantasy VII. The character portraits are huge and colorful. The graphics, in general, are simply amazing.

SOUND--10/10

The music, even though in MIDI, are very mesmerizing. Who ever composed the sound track to this should be awarded a Grammy for best overall presentation. The sound effect are excellent as well. The sound is excellent altogether.

CONTROLS--10/10

The controls are quite simple. You press X to call up your Menu, Circle to cancel the Menu, and Circle, L1 and R1 to search the area your in, mostly to get ahead in the game. This is what PS1 controls should be like in a RPG.

STORYLINE--10/10

The storyline is like that of a Oscar-winning film for Best Screenplay. It's completely mesmerizing and will actually hold you over for a very long time.

GAME PLAY--10/10

The game play is very intriguing. In battles, in most RPGs, you usually fight a whole group of monsters. In Beyond the Beyond, they come in at least 2 groups, thus making it very challenging. Also, the whole VP/LP stat gives the game some variety. This is especially true when one of your characters runs out of so-call Hit Points, but is amazingly revived. The game play is excellent.

OVERALL--10/10

Beyond the Beyond is, by far, one of the Best RPGs you can buy on your PS1. All in all, It a really fun game. Try it out, and you'll see what I mean.
