Star Wars: Demolition
Review by unknownvirus
"An incredible, buy this."
Anticipation: I was so excited about this game, it lets you be tons of vehicles from the Star Wars trilogy and episode one. Made by the same people from Vigilante 8 which was a great game.
Graphics: This game is amazing it takes full effect of the Playstation's graphics and very detailed environments. The environments are changing often and there are plenty of different levels. It has a level for almost every planet you see in the movies. The player models are great and so are their vehicles. The explosions in this game give you a feel of really how much damage you are doing to your opponent, which is good. The graphics are great for the time and for the Playstation. There are way too many slow-downs and dropped frame rates and some freezing (not very often though).
Graphics: 9/10 Amazing graphics but some minor slow-downs knock off a point.
Game play: The game play consists of you trying to destroy the enemy using special attacks or just your standard attacks. Use the R1 button and R2 Buttons to blast cheap regular lasers at your opponent. If you hold down one of these buttons a special meter will go up, enabling you to unleash that characters specific special attack. Each character has his or her own special move. Each time you use a special move your weapons power meter starts going down and your attacks become less threatening. But fear not, your weapon power will come back throughout the battle. The special moves vary, and often involve using big guns and big explosions. The L1 and L2 buttons charge up the attack power of weapons that you pick up from wandering droids around the map, let's call these "Secondary Weapons". You can only use these weapons for so long. The wandering droids also carry, Cloaking Device, Deflector Shield and Energy Converter. Your character has his core health and their shields, the shields come down first then your core health. Each map has its own distinctive setting and its own death traps. The maps are also destructible all-around you can explode trees and roll boulders into enemies on the Yavin level. Each map has 3 droid locations. If you find the "R2-D2" droid he will attach to your ship and gradually repair your shields. The "Power Droid" which gradually restores your weapons meter. Then there is the tactical droid, which shoots out little wimpy lasers. The different secondary weapons you can pick up vary and are placed randomly on the map. For the most part, this game has amazingly detailed levels, explosive objects in the environments (good explosions too!) The weapon selections are great and the entire button scheme is well laid out. I had a great time here. In "High Stakes" mode you wager a certain amount of credits before the race, and then when you win you get all of your opponent's credits. Tournament mode is basically the story mode where you go through multiple battles to become the victor. Then there is the basic battle mode, used for just a quick play. There is also "Hunt-A-Droid" mode where you kill the most imperial probe droids within the time limit. All the modes I just mentioned can be played in 2-player mode. Oh yeah, one thing I forgot to mention, when you kill an opponent the screen says to "finish him" when you do finish him, you rack up tons of credits and makes the game a whole lot of fun!
Game play: 10/10 Amazing game all around.
Story: You need to impress jabba or he will kill you, no really that's it. But you do begin to get a feeling for your character. You also feel bad for your character in his losing movies.
Story: 7/10 Not original but you do get a feeling for your character.
Replayability: There are tons of unlockables including, Winning and losing videos of your pilot. The CG videos are detailed and fun to watch, in the winning video it show your character getting some kind of promotion. In the losing video, your character may die or come close to dying. There are 3 unlockable characters (wont mention them). But overall, this game is just so much fun that you will just pick it up and start playing constantly, with yourself or a friend.
Replayability: 10/10 This game is so fun, you will just want to play it for awhile.
Sound: The sound is aw-inspiring every little thing you do has a sound effect. From the explosions to the music that draws you into the game more and more. As you get excited and ready for a blast-o-thon. I especially liked how each vehicle has its very own distinct sound effect that blends with the vehicle and even the pilot.
Sound: 10/10 Magnificent
Overall: I had a great time playing this game, and to this day I still pull it out from the dusty shelves and go a few rounds with my friends. Buy this please, its probably only 10 dollars by now.
9/10
