C: The Contra Adventure
Review by YSF
"The series gets buried deeper into the mud- almost to be forgotten!!!"
I am going to make my review as short as possible. For many reasons, i have to say that i am truly disappointed with Konami and C: The Contra Adventure. After releasing the disappointing Contra: Legacy Of War on the PlayStation, instead of thinking of ways to return the Contra series to its former glory, C: The Contra Adventure buries it deeper into the mud- almost to be forgotten.
Developed by Appaloosa Interactive, you have to save the planet from Red Falcon and its alien brood. Players are expected to make their way through several levels, each having a sub-boss and a final boss. Most of the views are sideviews, although almost all are fully polygonal.
The gameplay will feature similar elements that you have seen in the previous Contra games, particularly the hovering power-up containers, spinning jumps and a variety of weapons which range from spread lasers to homing missiles. New features that have been introduced to C: The Contra Adventure that Contra: Legacy Of War does not have, is analog support. That's all i have to say for the good points. Now, the bad points.
Talk about great level design, cool bosses? C: The Contra Adventure has almost none. All you can expect are come into contact with an enemy, then die and choose whether you want to continue, terrible collision detection, incredible difficulty etc. Besides, what happen to the two-player mode?
I thought that Konami would do something to revamp the series. In the end, i find none of the qualities that made me like the 8-bit and 16-bit Contras, but find a lot of those in C: The Contra Adventure that made me feel Contra: Legacy Of War was disgusted.
The gameplay and replayability are already in such a pathetic state and talking furthur about visual and audio will be very meaningless, perhaps even sadden me more. Contra: Legacy Of War is one of the first generation games on the PlayStation. Okay, i can still forgive that and hoping that Konami will produce a better Contra next time. But, is C: The Contra Adventure a first generation game? Definitely, not at all!
Overall, stay away from C: The Contra Adventure. Don't even think of renting this crap. You will be disappointed. I have warned you!!!
