Jet Moto 2
Review by Charrbins Apprentice
"This is an amazing game that should be resurrected."
It seems strange that games can get better by sequel, and this game proves that.
10/10 Gameplay - Jet Moto is a very fun game because right away you are flying through a level at insane speeds and you crash more often then not. Then you learn how to play. You find yourself zeroing in on opponents so you can send them flying off their bike as you gain a position; you do barrel rolls and quadruple flips like they're nothing; you scream through the tight last section of the track while using JUST the right amount of turbo juice. This game is addictive because it gets incredibly hard as you pass through higher difficulty levels, yet the fun factor is retained.
7/10 Graphics/Sound - The graphics, sadly, aren't the best to ever grace the Playstation. But you aren't going to focus on the silly backgrounds when you have to worry about suicidal racers and a finish line oh so far away. When it counts, however, the immense scheme of the tracks and the imagination makes up for the pixelated nightmare.
The strange thing is the soundtrack. It's awesome. The screeching guitars whilst you break the normal constraints of the g-force on a human and the instrumentation unique to every level; it puts to shame countless big title games and many music "artists". The rest of the sound is average: the motors, the turbo sound, the crashes.
9/10 Originality - The tracks are breath-taking. The Shaft is a track you'll come to loathe, but once you master the course it will become one of your favorites. Analyzing just this level would take a while, and most of the levels are as original as The Shaft.
The originality of the game is huge. The grappling poles are genius, because they can make or break a race (but not as much as the game wants you to think, as the true make or break is how NOT to crash of course). There is turbo, of course, but they are no more annoying racing cliches such as kiddy "power-ups" and fads, like the extreme sport phenomenon that plagued the third Jet Moto. (The stunt park).
9/10 Play Time/Replayability - I still haven't beat everything in the game and I don't think I ever will -- I think it's a little too hard. What makes this "better" than the first Jet Moto is the fact that you can unlock the tracks of that game. Don't worry, you can always use a cheat if you can't unlock them :)
If you have a PS2 and you like racing games, buy this game and utilize its cheap price at a used game-store and the backwards-compatibility of the system.
