Aquanaut's Holiday
Review by Valient
"A slow, boring underwater quest"
Graphics -- They could have been a lot better. I understand that it is difficult to make a game in which you travel 360 degrees in any direction, however the graphics are just poor. Also, this game was made a few years ago, so you cannot really expect spectacular graphics.
Sound -- I was very dissapointed in the sound in the game also. There is the ambient bubble sound, however there is an annoying beeping sound. I was wishing for some sort of soothing underwater music or something, but that was not incorporated.
Gameplay -- The main problem with gameplay is the slowness of the movements. Perhaps I was doing something wrong, but I found that it took me ten minutes or something to move accross the screen to some underwater rock. There are no other humans or other watercrafts, but that is not a problem, the natural aquatic animals should take care of that... however the only animals I found were very 2D, and not impressive at all. The game becomes boring very fast.
Multi-Player -- There is no option for multi-player, and often times that alone can really hurt a game (like Tomorrow Never Dies on the playstation).
Replayability -- I don't think this game has much replayability due to its lack of features and dissapointing controls. The title of the game is more interesting than the actual game.
To Rent or Buy? -- Neither. I got this game because I read some online review from a few years ago praising it, to be very dissapointed that I wasted some money. Even if you think the game still sounds OK for some reason, pay no more than $5 for it.
Overall -- I give this game a 2. I am somewhat partial to unique games, and this one is somewhat unique, however this game was poorly designed.
