Gekido
Review by Amakusa42
"Fans of old school beat em ups will love this."
Okay, its been awhile since I have done a review. To be honest, schoolwork has kept me away from it. BUUUT since you are not hear to read about my obsessive-compulsive videogame disorder, i'll just skip to the review.
Gekido Urban Fighters is a good game. For those of you who long for the days of Final Fight, Double Dragon, and Streets of Rage, Gekido is a breath of fresh air.
The story, like in all games of this type, is totally unimportant. Simply put, you must go thru wave after wave, after wave of bad guys, beating them up like red-headed step-children. There is some variety in the bad guys, but mostly they are the same.
Truth be known, Although the grafics ARE nice, they seem kind of dirty to me. That is, it looks like someone rubbed vasoline on the screen. Polygon count is low for ALL of the characters, I guess to make the action better.
What is what it does. In fact, you spend a lot of time in this game, seemingly hopelessly outnumbered. Oh well, all you have to do is just repeatedly mash on the buttons and they die. Cool huh?
But thats not all. As you beat up even MORE bad guys, you gain access to even MORE combos, which aid in taking out increasingly tough bad guys (The cheap Dark City ripoffs come to mind). You wont need them at all, but its nice to see there is some depth to the game.
Also included is a 4 player battle mode. This is truly what makes the game worthwhile. Sure it isnt as tactics filled as a 2-player romp thru Syphon Filter 2-ville. But its as fun as POWERSTONE... And its on a playstation! Just be afraid of the guy who picks up compact cars to throw at you... yes i am serious.
Graphics: 7. would some one get me some Windex to get this Stuff off the screen? Oh its designed that way.
Sound: 9. kick ass tunes by lots of REAL bands. Of course, I already heard the Fatboy slim music in Rollcage.
Playability: 8. Its only a 6 if you play by yerself.
Lastablity: 6. Only if you play by yerself. 4 player mode is STILL fun with 4 buddies.
Overall: 8. Not bad. buy if you like beat em ups, but its definatly a must rent.
-amakusa Picks the Bruce Lee clone, and begins beating the crap out of anything that walks by.
