Threads of Fate
Review by ThatSuperGuy
"Interesting, fun, and underrated."
One day, while looking through the games at a rental store, I saw Threads of Fate. It looked interesting, and I decided to play it. After being enthralled with the game, I decided to hunt it down and buy it.
Graphics 7/10
Of course, it doesn't have the greatest graphics. However, for being a PlayStation game, they aren't half bad. The game also lacks the beautiful cutscenes that Square was known for, but it doesn't make much of a difference. The backgrounds are nice to look at and are very colorful.
Gameplay 9/10
The gameplay is what really makes this game great. You can choose between two characters, Rue and Mint, who both play very differently. Rue can transform into monsters that he has encountered, or he can fight using his axe-like weapon. Mint is the magic-user. She can cast a wide variety of spells by the end of the game, but near the beginning you have very few spells to use.
The game allows you to progress through many different areas of the game to eventually find a relic. You progress through many different areas of the game, which are all very enjoyable to play through. Some of the areas get rather confusing, but that happens in other games as well.
Sound 9/10
The music of the game is good as well. It isn't anything fantastic, but it isn't annoying and it fits the mood well. The sound effects are good, but the lack of voices is disappointing.
Story 8/10
The story of this game may not be as good as other Square games, but it is excellent nonetheless.
Rue was living a normal life until his "sister" was killed by a mysterious monster known as the Arm of Death. He sets out to find the relic to revive his sister.
Mint was a princess and was eventually going to be queen. However, she was kicked out by her sister and a mysterious servant, so she wants to find the relic so she can have world domination.
Characters/Bosses 10/10
The characters are an excellent part of the game. Many of the characters are eccentric and quirky, but that's what makes them so endearing to the gamer.
The characters' dialogue is humorous, even if the occasional expletive seems unnecessary and out of place. Mint and Rue stand out as exceptionally well developed main characters. The bosses are odd and cool and the best part of every area. The conflict and race between Rue and Mint is wonderful.
Replay 9/10
The game is very fun. You could play through it again to try the game with another character. The path of the story is altered and the gameplay is different (see gameplay). Overall, the game is worth playing through again, especially due to the experience being so enjoyable. Playing with the other character seems completely different.
Fun 10/10
This game is simply a lot of fun. I'm not quite sure what it is, but playing this game was a very enjoyable experience. Perhaps it was everything coming together into one. This game is fun for gamers of all ages.
When I got this game and started playing it, I could never put it down. It was so much fun that I seemed to be playing it all the time. Every level of the game was different and exciting. I thoroughly enjoyed playing and replaying it.
For me, this game gets a 9 out of 10.
