Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Super S
Review by NeptuneWaters
"A hardcore fan who thought this game was hardcore horrid."
Now, being a huge/major Sailor Moon fanboy who probably own too much Sailor Moon merchandise to actually be a boy, you would think I would love this game, especially for the pricey money I paid at the story.
Well, at first when I popped it in, the opening FMV blew me away. Since the graphics back then for this game was totally awesome. Everything from the opening menu and the character selection screen to the voice acting was amazing. Simply just amazing. Along with the music selection on the CD, each corresponding to it's Sailor Senshi.
Now here comes the bad part, everything else. Once the fight begins, since this is a fighting game. You'll notice how "blah" the background image of the stage is. Then you'll realize the horrendous polygons used for the characters. It makes you wonder on why they couldn't just use anime drawn sprites? You would think that would be the case, since Street Fighter Alpha did that. Now, if that didn't bother you, well, once you actually start playing. The way the controls and movement will tick you off beyong belief. How can things go slower? Well, here's how, the loading time is one of the longest loading times in playstation history.
Well, back to the gameplay, in the 1P story mode, after you choose your Inner Senshi, as you can't choose the Outer Senshi in this mode. You can choose to alter the stats of your character. Meaning, you can make her stronger, giver her defense... etc. Although, there's one option that clearly shouldn't exist that makes you randomly taunt your opponent or something, out of you will. It will simply make your character stand there totally helpless, while the other senshi can beat you up silly with their respective powers, or a odd-looking kick.
Which brings me back to the characters sprites. It's not exactly 2D, nor is it exactly 3D which it does give off that feel. It uses that motion capture technology that Donkey Kong, Mortal Kombat, Clay Fighter, and Killer Instinct use... just in a horrid disposition where the senshi don't look real or like a cartoon. They just look like creepy clay-stick model things with dresses and coloured hair.
Well, to top off all the horrid things in this game, if you beat it in one player mode. You really don't get anything except a non-FMV moving anime picture of the person you beat the game with, along with spoken dialogue. As being there was no actually story to this game except to see which Senshi is the "strongest", which anyone will find to be total crack.
