Chocobo Racing
Review by SeanKelson
"It's a sour taste when you mix an RPG with a racing game."
General
Chocobo Racing is a sad rip-off of the better racing games for N64. If you don't feel like reading through the details of this review at the moment, go find Mario Kart 64 at a used game store instead of Chocobo Racing. Take this idea: Mix an RPG with a racing game. Sounds great until you mix in a storyline that takes extreme turns to put a race into the game. Very odd.
Graphics (5/10)
The graphics are OK. I can't say much about the graphics. They are average Playstation graphics. Not too bad, but not that good either.
Sound (5/10)
The game has average music. There isn't anything big about the sound. The music isn't a perfect match to the game, but it works.
Play Control (10/10)
Chocobo Racing has a customizable play control, and is easy to learn. The play control is very simple. One of the good parts of this game.
Challenge (3/10)
The only challenge you can find in this game is getting max points on customizing your own racer. If you want challenge, go find another game. I mastered the game in 3 hours, and the challenge doesn't match that of a Squaresoft game.
Storyline (1/10)
This game's storyline is unbelievably horrible. Squaresoft would've been better off making the game have no storyline as opposed to the storyline it has. I've never seen a worse storyline. Seriously.
Game Length (4/10)
When I look at the memory a CD can hold, I am amazed. But Chocobo Racing is shorter than even the average short game on a CD. It's too short for what it easily could have been.
Replay Value (2/10)
This game barely avoided scoring lower on this category. The only thing that makes this game worth playing through is the option to customize a racer once you play the game through once.
Gameplay (3/10)
Gameplay is everything in a game, and Chocobo Racing does not have gameplay. I got bored of the game after 2 and 1/2 hours, and that time is a disgrace for a Squaresoft game.
Originality (6/10)
There's one thing special about the originality of Chocobo Racing. It's an average racing game with a weird twist making the game like an RPG. Though original, it definitely made the game worse.
Overall (2/10)
If you want to write down another games on the ''Games I've Mastered'' list, go rent Chocobo Racing for a day. Heed my warning: Don't buy Chocobo Racing! It's a waste of money. Chocobo Racing is a proof that Squaresoft shouldn't go creating racing games. Looking for a good racing game? Go get one for N64. You'll be much more satisfied with it than Chocobo Racing.
