"The Saturn's Best Fighter Along With Virtua Fighter 2. Another Game That is Gold."

After playing Virtua Fighter 2 50,000 times, and then Fighting Vipers an additional hundred times or so (only one of these numbers is accurate), I found out that Fighters Megamix was a mix of the two games. Thrilled? You bet I was. Excited? Yet again, you bet. So when I finally put it into my Saturn, and booted it up, I was in heaven. Probably AM2's finest work can be seen in this game, and even more so, in the game play.

Game play: 10/10

Finally the game play is perfect is on a Saturn AM2 fighter. Combining the Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers worlds has really made the game play in this game shine. Not only are there no ring outs (due to the walls), but now the Virtua Fighters can also knock the armor off of the Vipers. Its a great feature that adds a lot more strategy to the game. Another feature that makes the game shine (aside from the different modes), are the 32 characters that you may choose from. 32 characters is unheard of, even in today's non-compilation fighting games. There are roughly 16 who are Virtua Fighter style (without armor), and 16 who are Viper style (with armor). , each is unique (obviously), and (especially some of the unlocked characters) are a lot of fun to use and face. We shall now move on to story.

Story: N/A

For some reason, this game has no story. Very well, on to the graphics.

Graphics: 9/10

A slight step back from Virtua Fighter 2 is this game. I'm not sure if it is because its not running at 60 FPS, or if the graphics just aren't as good, but the fact is, they aren't up to par with Virtua Fighter 2. Regardless, they are still very good, even by today's standards. One area that stands out the most are the new backgrounds (of the unlocked characters). They are refreshing, new, and have a very different look to them. The sounds are just as good, if not better.

Sounds: 10/10

Ah yes, the excellent music is back, as well as the sounds. Sounds from Virtua Fighter, and Vipers are in the game, along with a few new sounds for some of the characters. Along with the music from Virtua Fighter 2 and Vipers, there is also some new music. Some tracks from Virtua Fighter, Virtua Fighter 3, Sonic the Fighters, and some unique music also. The sounds in the game were definitely an integral element to the developers. Was the replay ability also integral?

Replay ability: 10/10

This game will take you a few hours to beat, but it will take forever to conquer. You'd be surprised how many times you will come really really close to beating a survival score, and then lose it nicely. Furthermore, there are 12 characters that have to be unlocked initially, and 2 more characters after you've played the game for a certain amount of time.

Buy or rent?

Saturn games cannot be rented, but buy this game anyways. Its the daddy of all Saturn fighters.

Daddy? I meant Grand daddy. All fighters should strive to be this near perfect, between characters and modes, the quality of graphics and the game play itself, its nearly perfect. Yu Suzuki has done it again; is there anything he can't do?
