"On Second Thought, This Game Is Very Good"

Finally after waiting for a few years, and seeing many videos on youtube (including the infamous, "ba-bang!" video), I finally picked up the final game released for the Saturn... for $175.00. Could I have gotten it for less? Maybe, but that was alright, I could now play the only fighter based on the best (and my favourite) beat-em-up ever, Final Fight. I`m not displeased with the game, though it could have been better. Game play will tell you why.

Game play: 8/10

This game plays like a typical Capcom fighter, with the half circles a-plenty, a special button, and the powerful/weak strikes. Being a Capcom 3-D fighter though, you should know that Capcom cannot do 3-D as well as they do 2-D. An added quirk to this game is that each character has their special moves, and they also have 2 single special moves, that are accompanied with an animation, or with a little cut-scene that adds some color to the game. Another addition is the addition of weapons that appear on the ground that can be picked up and used, although they are difficult to use, and highly impractical. There are also quite a few modes that adds more to the game play. Story will be next, Capcom`s specialty.

Story: 9/10

The Mad Gear gang wants to re-establish themselves as a powerhouse in Metro City, and the gang are back to rescue Jessica... again. Each character also has their own motives that add to the story, and it makes for a really great story, again, Capcom`s specialty. Graphics will be next.

Graphics: 8/10

Good graphics, though they could have been better. Just a little bit more put into the graphics would have easily given this score a 10. The characters look great for the most part (Poison look really good), and the Zombie Belger also looks great. The backgrounds are different locations in Metro City, and they are bland and moderately detailed. Sounds are next... not as bad as I once thought.

Sounds: 8/10

At first, the sounds are nothing special, however the more and more you play the game, the more you will appreciate the great little blend of jazzy and rocky tunes. As far as sound effects are concerned, they are very good, if not brilliant. Each character has their own unique voice, and a decent amount of voice work was done in this game. The weapons are very realistic sounding whether it is a gun or a pipe. Is the game one that can be replayed?

Replay ability: 7/10

This game had the potential (just like the graphics and the sound) to be a long lasting game, however aside from the beating the game with the characters, and the few extra modes, there really is not much to replay in this game.

Buy or rent?

Renting is seemingly impossible, thus stick to just buying it, but its very pricey...

Yeah, I bought it for a hefty buck, but was it worth it? Absolutely... I guess. The truth is, if I was not a Final Fight fan, I probably would not have bought this... but that is alright. The more and more I have played the game, the more I have appreciated it, and gotten into it, It truly is not as bad as I once thought. "Ba-Bang!"
