"Reliving the oldies..."

CapCom made some great games back in the day. And a few years ago (around the end of 1998 and beginning of 1999) they made the Generation Collection for both the Saturn and Playstation (but I only have the Saturn version). So here we go!

There are 3 complete games all are the Ghost & Goblins series, comprising of Ghost & Goblins, Ghouls & Ghosts, and Super Ghouls & Ghosts. Since these games are so old, I'm not going into too much detail, but make comparisons somewhat.

All three of these games have HIGH replay value, something that is lost in many of todays games. these are the arcade versions of the original 2 games, and Super G&G has been ''emulated'' to look like an arcade game (for all we know it was an arcade game in Japan before it made it to the SNES - who knows?)

Ghosts'n Goblins: 9/10 This is my favorite game of all time! Great animations, colors, and music that will forever be remembered. Ghosts n Goblins is a cross between Donkey Kong & Super Mario Brothers. Defeat Loki once and then try again with the hardest weapon to use the second time for the true ending (For all G&G games really). The original seems to have better variety than the others, plus it was completely different environment than most games of the time which made it that much more interesting and fun to play. This game is pretty much arcade perfect yet it seems easier than I remember in the arcade)

Ghouls'n Ghosts: 8/10 The sequel. This game added two new extras, first you could shot up. Plus you could acquire a 2nd armor that gives you magic properties (unless you were hit). The bosses were bigger, some of the gameplay was tweaked to be easier than the first. Some weapons were added, and the music was even better. Now the game itself, IS arcade perfect, but somehow CapCom messed up the intro - the music is missing when the title screen comes down. The place to put your name is there, complete WITH the complementary music (which could be selected to be heard in the Genesis version - but not heard in game, since you can't leave you initials). Other than the missing intro music, the game is near arcade perfect!

Super Ghouls'n Ghosts: 6/10 OK, I bought a SNES LATE in it's life (or after), and eventually picked this game up used. It is WAY to hard. I'm good to past the first level! It's that ''insane''. The same goes for this version - which is the same except for it being ''chopped'' on the sides to make it look like an emulated arcade game (for this package). It doesn't really bother me, for I prefer ''arcade'' style to home style gaming anyway. The control isn't hard to pick up. There are some overly tough double jumps (more than neccessary in my opinion) to handle. Instead of having fun and playing around this version requires you memorize to a T the enemy movements. Many consider this version their favorite... I do not due to the difficulty (even set on the easiest setting!). The music and graphics are similar if not some better than Ghouls n ghosts. The way CapCom tried to make it look like an arcade version was an interesting addition, but those loyal to the SNES version might not care for it.

Overall: 9/10 for this collection volume 2 out of the CapCom Generations line. I'd would it's the best collection out of the 5. Maybe one decade will see the original Bionic Commando (arcade) again someday...sigh.
Definitely a keeper!
