Choujikuu Yousai Macross: Ai Oboete Imasu ka

"Huh? This is a game?"

I never liked any of the Macross games before this one, and I don't what possessed me to get this one when it was released for the Saturn in Japan. I guess since I used to be a Macross fan, I thought I'd have at least one game just for the hell of it. Just like with the others I've played, this one sucked too. Still better than that VFX I played though *shudder*.

Graphics: 4

The graphics weren't anything special. I've seen better come out of the Super NES. The backgrounds were very bland, and the enemies looked like crap too. The clips in between the stages are nice though. Too bad, I've seen most of them before I even played this game. I should have just looked for the movie instead.

Sound/Music: 7

I think this was the best part about the game. The sound effects do sound like an anime, and the music is pretty good. Now if the rest of the game was as good as the sound, It'd be cool...

Gameplay: 2

What gameplay? The stages are so damn easy and short, it's pathetic. You play for a couple of minutes, then watch some anime, play for a couple minutes, watch some anime. That's how the whole game is. The controls aren't that great either. Sometimes, I can't seem to turn around fast enough in battledroid-mode, but the maneuverability isn't that good in any mode. Who cares, it isn't that hard anyway. The enemies are predictable and stupid. The only they got going for them is the ability to fly into a different planes although they do seem to get a free shot as soon as they fly inot the main plane which you're in. A little frustrating, but at least it kept me awake. I think you watch more clips that playing the game. Oh well, the gameplay sucks so I guess it's not a problem.

Replay Value: 1

Once I beat the game and was able to view all the scenes, why should I bother playing it again? Viewing the clips is the only thing worth doing twice. There are a lot of shooters out there much better than this crap.

Should you buy?

No, but hardcore Macross fans would get it, no matter how bad it sucks, just because it happens to be Macross. I was an idiot for getting it myself, hoping this Macross game would actually be good.
