Saturn
Review by Da VideoGuy
"This is the console that should've won over PSX."
Sega is well known. For it's GREAT games, and people dissing it for no good reason at all. But what I'm gonna talk about is WHY this console should've won. It has my favorite game of all time, Dragon Force. Plus, this system is only a mere $30, so this is one you should pick up. Saturn could go online, play VCDs, have 8-Player capabilities with almost all of its games (PSX has about 5 games which can). So, I'll start here.
Graphics: 10
When this was released before PSX it was looking like PS2 did in 1998-1999. It even has better graphics than PSX because of its co-processor, and it's 4 MB expansion. Sure, some of the games' graphics look like mere poo, but it doesn't affect the descision to buy a game(except for you PICKY gamers). Bearable for most people.
Sound: N/A
Sound isn't really something you rate(unless the system is cartridge format). The Saturn uses CDs. All CDs have the same digital quality. Games are where you rate the sound. Most of the games had good sound too.
Design: 9
Big, but featurable. It had an expansion slot, mod board slot, and all the rest. The controller fit comfortably in your hand, and the DC controller is based off of the 3D controller made for Saturn. It has only 2 ports for controllers, but has an 8-Player Multi-Tap, so you can't argue there. It isn't bad looking at all, which is why I'm giving this section a 9.
Third Party Support: 5
This is where the console loses much of it's glow. Nobody paid attention to it because not many people bought it. Most of the support was in Japan, and about 10% of the perpherals were released in the US. Very weak here, the weakest point of the Saturn.
Games: 8
Low number, but HIGHEST quality I've ever seen. About 90% of the games were UNrushed, and my favorite game in general is on this system(Dragon Force). It had great RPGs, and Strategy games. And not only that, the games are CHEAP. $2 for Virtua Cop, and about $7 for Virtua Fighter, and all those games. Those are some pretty good games, and at a low price, who could want more?
Overall: 8
Just because this game doesn't have many games doesn't mean that most of them are good. For $30, and some more bucks for games, who could POSSIBLY resist the system that SHOULD'VE won over PSX?
