Saturn

Review by Mitora

"Probably Sega's best systems (and best RPG system as well), but too bad it has been un-appeciated by many."

INTRO: Even though it did not do so well against the Sony Playstation in Asia, it did wallop the Nintendo 64 over there (NOTE: I don't hate the N64, it's good and all, but Nintendo 64 really needed some improvements), the Sega Saturn will always have a place in Mitora's heart and will be always a great 32 bit system.

GRAPHIC QUALITY: For it's time, Sega Saturn had some of the better quality graphics around. Even though some of the first generation games were rather blocky (eg. the first ''Virtua Fighter'' game, Toshinden URA, etc.), the more Sega did, the more better the graphics looked (eg. Baroque, Mechanical Violator Hakaider, etc.). However, when it came to FMVs or Cutscenes, it was a mixed bag. It was either very fluid or very choppy. Oh well, nothing is perfect!

GAMES AND GENRES:

Okay, now my favorite part. Where I get to explain about some goods and bads in each genre!

RPGs- Probably the best system for RPGs, especially if you live in America and want some import games so bad and well, Saturn has some great ones! It might not have ''Dragon Quest'' or ''Final Fantasy'', but that's okay, there are mote to RPGs than that! Like how could you not turn down classics ''must imports'' like ''Baroque'', ''Megami Tensei:Soul Hackers'', ''Tales of the Seven Windblast Isles'' and not to mention ''Devil Summoner''!

But be warned: One RPG NOT to get is ''Virtual Hydlide''! Now that RPG is a downright loser!

FIGHTING GAMES- Even though ''Toshinden URA'' was a loser (and believe me, I am a BIG Toshinden fan!), there are some other interesting titles like ''Cyberbots:Full Metal Madness'' (one of the better Capcom Fighters, IMO) and ''Fighters Megamix''. So Saturn has both good and bad Fighters as well.

PUZZLE GAMES- There are some more improved entries in the ''Puzzle Bobble'' series, as well as yet more ''Puyo Puyo'' games as well. Heh heh, sweet!!!

SIDE SCROLLERS- Besides the ''Sonic the Hedgehog'' platform games, Saturn has the now classic ''Castlevania: Syphony of the Night''. Worth a glace or two.

GAMEPLAY: Another little improvement here. Believe me, the rounded controller will take some getting used to, unlike the crescent-shaped Sega Genesis controller. But once you do get the hang of it, everything will be just fine.

FUN: It's a very fun game system indeed, especially for RPG fans like me.

OVERALL: Even though it has died down over the last years, Sega Saturn will never be forgotten. It still has some great games, but only if people gave it a chance.

WOULD MITORA PURCHASE THIS SYSTEM: Yep, I did! But good luck trying to find one!
