Review by Larcen Tyler
"Capcom should be censured for censoring this version too!"
When I picked up Resident Evil for Saturn, I was hoping that the original cinematics would be intact. Then I flipped it on and saw they were the same as the PSX version! Someone oughta yell at Capcom for this!
Graphics: 8/10
Sure they're slightly gorier than the PSX version, but they're grainier than the PSX as well. Plus, to leave the cinematics untouched docks this game's graphics an extra point.
Sound: 10/10
At least the sounds and music are still up to par with the original. Even the laughable voices remain intact, keeping the trademarks of the original intact. The music, if you don't know, is done with an eerie theme to it, suiting the game rather well. In the Battle Mode (see Replay) there's a high tempo song that plays throughout the fight.
Control: 9/10
For the most part, the controls are right-on. Unfortunately, they left out the ability to auto-aim, which makes things very difficult in tight situations! Now that's a real mystery as why they left this feature out!
Replay: 8/10
Aside from the two characters with various endings, there is a Battle Mode, where you're given ammo and health items in limited quantities, and you must fight your way from room to room in the shortest time possible. Conserving ammo is a must. Since the goal is to kill every enemy in the room before moving on, lack of auto aim hurts this really bad.
Overall: 7/10
If you've never played Resident Evil, then this is a fine way to play. If you have, then a rental will suit most fans. At least to see what the battle mode is like.
