"A decent fighter with awful graphics"

''A solid fighter with poor graphics'' yup that about somes up Virtual Fighter for the Sega Saturn.

Graphics
Blech!!! these Graphics are awful(even for being one of the first Saturn games) picture 16 maybe even 8 bit backgrounds and poorly done 16-bit style arenas throw in ugly blocky fighters that are a pain to even look at, and you have the ''Virtual Fighter look''

The reason I even rated the Graphics as high as I did is because this was one of if not the first Saturn game ever.

Sound
GAH! this sucks too! the sound is hardly ''CD-Quality'' you have the typical fighting game noises and the voiced taunts the fighters say after winning a match ''I'm Faster Then Lightning!!''..riiiiight, then you have some music that isn't all that bad, each stage has it's own theme-music which isn't too hard on the ears.

Control
The VF series has always had superb controls IMO, and the tricky combos are hard to learn, but quite rewarding once you've got them down. VF1 just like the other Virtua Fighter games VF1 has plenty of cool moves and combos to learn(sadly there isn't much more of a game to go with the great control system, other then the cool moves/combos) but thats what a fighting games about right?

Gameplay
Great controls, a deep fighting engine, awful graphics and some very ugly and blocky fighters..so you see, this game has the foundation for a great fighting series(just look at VF2 and VF4) but even though the foundation of a great fighter is there...the rest of the game is ''decent'' at best.

Final Comments
Even back when the Saturn Launched this game wasen't all that good, people just played it because it was the pack in game and because their wasen't really any other Saturn games for awhile, also after buying Segas Big Black $399 dollar Box they were broke. for you fans of fighting games with terrible graphics and blocky stupid looking fighters stop banging your head on the wall! this is the game for you! there is also a Virtual Fighter:Remix which is pretty much the same thing only slightly better.
