"This party game is so fun, it might blow your head off!"
Aah! bomberman games, what could be more fun than the best party game series ever. Sega Saturn owners had the opportunity to play the first ever ten-player bomberman game with Saturn Bomberman. Some even hailed it as the best bomberman game ever and even include it to their top ten best saturn games of all time. So the Sega Saturn have the best bomberman game ever, can a second bomberman game be even better? Well there is a second bomberman game on the saturn but only available as an import even so it's easy to understand and in my opinion, it's better.
Saturn Bomberman Fight was a game by Hudson for the Sega Saturn. It is different from the previous bomberman game because it's presented in semi-3D and can only have a maximum of 4-players. Saturn bomberman is considered the best because it has a maximum of ten players and it still uses the old-school bomberman graphics of the 16-bit era with improved animation and color pallette. Saturn Bomberman fight may not offer ten-player simultaneous competition but it's still great. The game presents itself with a nicely done anime' intro and after watching it, the fun begins.
Graphically, the game presented itself well, the characters are 3d, and so is the environment with nice colors, lighting effects on the explosions, and creative level/arena designs. But the actual arena as the match starts look kinda small and seems like an isometric perspective making it look like semi-3D, but no worries you can still see or recognize your characters amidst the chaos. And the madness of throwing bombs at each other and simultaneous bomb explosions is a real eye candy, it's chaotic but really pleasing to the eyes. Music fits the game very well, cutesy and very japanese but it grows on you. Sound is great exploding bombs sound great and character voices are amusing, music and sound combination is executed well. Controls are easy, you have jump button, throw and pick-up bomb button, navigation with the directional pad, you tell me if that's complicated. How about gameplay? classic bomberman stuff with some old power-up and some new ones and the horse is very cool to use and all I can say is ''Fun factor of this game is more fun than a barrel of explosives''. Nothing is more fun and satisfying than trapping your friends with bombs, or seeing them blow themselves up, or see them run in panic as you throw that giant bomb onto them causing a big nuclear-like explosion. It's so fun you can hear taunts and laughter across the room, the experience of seeing and doing those is priceless. For replay value, well not much extras, maybe I've unlocked a secret character or stage but I really don't know, it's japanese. Well this game doesn't need extras, it's fun enough to play all night long as long as you play it with friends, single player mode tends to get boring.
My verdict, this game blows the competition, even if it's just a 4-player bomberman, I like it more than any bomberman game to date even Saturn bomberman. I highly recommend it for it's extremely fun and addictive game-play, it's the ultimate party game in my opinion. I you don't like party games, give this game a try and you might get into it. Don't have friends? it's time for you to get some and enjoy this game.
