"Now This Is A Rumble In The Bronx!!!"
Last Bronx is a 3-D fighting game made by Sega in 1997 for the Saturn, and in many ways, bears many similarities with Namco's Soul Blade for the PlayStation. Saturn owners who don't own a PlayStation finally has a chance to try out what an identical clone of Soul Blade plays like.
Last Bronx ultises the same awesome, hi-resolution look that Virtua Fighter 2 has. The fighters are polygonal, smooth and looks pretty good. Most importantly, the frame rate is pretty fast, making the game play like Tekken 2 or Soul Blade.
With a fast and fluid animation, players won't feel like they are floating through the air when they jump. Furthermore, the different weapon attacks will most likely to make it a winner. Last Bronx has fighters who use real-life weapons to ''help'' the opponent to the ground.
Almost, if not all of the fighting arenas take place in Tokyo and many scenery found in the various arenas like billboards, buildings and other landmarks etc are taken from Tokyo. The fighting arenas are pretty detailed and generally look very good.
Last Bronx isn't just a two-player game obviously. Besides featuring eight fighters each with his or her own fighting style, the one player mode allows you to fight through seven other fighters. And, of course, you can expect secrets too.
If these aren't enough, during all modes of play, the game also has a dramatic camera angle that changes to show the best view of the fight and this often happens when a player uses one of the hold move. In my opinion, it's pretty cool!
The music and sound effects are average as what you can expect from a typical fighting tunes. The background tunes are fairly quite nice. Sound effects are generally quite good and you can hear all the noises made by kicking, punching, throwing, hitting and so on.
Overall, Last Bronx is one of the most unique fighting games for the Saturn. Any diehard 3-D fighting fan should take into consideration of whether to buy it or not.
