Legend of Oasis
Review by Warbotx2
"An underrated masterpiece..."
Looking back now, I must say that the Sega Saturn is one of the best console ever. It didn't have much hits. Most of you know Dragon Force, Panzer Dragoon and some other. There is one game, maybe not as great, but it is really good. Legend of Oasis developed by Ancient, published by Sega. The sequel to the good Beyond Oasis on Sega Genesis.
Gameplay 35/40
Well, the game came out went most games were trying to make the 3D jump. The game is a 2D RPG Action/Adventure. The engine is pretty identical to the Zelda games, so no leveling. The game's main feature is the Spirits system. You must collect 6 different elemental spirits. Once you have acquired one, you may summon it to battle with you. By pressing some buttons you can order them to do only four actions. The AI of your companion isn't too good. They are set to follow you around, but they often get stuck in a wall. You can find various items and different weapons. Some items will boost your different spirits.
Graphic 17/20
The game's beautiful 2D graphic are really amazing. The game's sprites has some nice animations. The anime sequence are badly drawn, I dont know why they let it like that, Ughh...
Sound 9/10
Wow, the music is really great. Each area has the right music to make you feel in the game. It has orchestral music by the way. The sound effects are mediocre compared to the music. There is no real voice acting in the game.
Control 8/10
The controls are solid and simple. Not much to say here.
Story
The story is that an evil magician who owned an evil armlet is back and threatens the Oasis. You have found the gold armlet and you must defend your home. A basic plot.
Multiplayer
There is a multiplayer! They hid it, that's dumb. Check the codes section to unlock it. Basically, your partner is a ghostly version of yourself. You both share the same health and weapon. You can cooperate in good ways, like jumping on top of your partner to skip whole dungeons...
Replay Value 12/20
The game is short and pretty easy. Once you beaten it, you can replay it with some easier and much harder difficulty.
Conclusion
LoO is a great original game. With the low prize, you must buy it.
