Hey there. nm14 is here to create yet another FAQ, and this time it is for
NHLPA 93. I noticed that there were NO FAQs for this game, so I decided to
share a little bit of knowledge with you guys. I will try to do my best to give
you some strategies and information regarding the game. Let's get on with this
FAQ, shall we?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
N 2.0 E-Mail Policy N
H ------------------- H
L L
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey everyone. This is the e-mail policy portion of this FAQ. I am going to
list what I believe to be "acceptable" or "unacceptable" e-mails. Of course,
it would be very wise of you to correctly e-mail me if you are hoping for a
response. Also, if you have made a mistake when e-mailing me, it is very likely
I will block you so that you cannot send me any more messages. So, now that
you all know what will happen if you incorrectly e-mail me, you have to find
out what is acceptable and what is unacceptable. Please read below.
Do you have information that we have not covered in this FAQ? Well, read below.
If you happen to know something in the FAQ please e-mail us. We are always
interested in adding information from readers, but there are a few exceptions.
If this FAQ is NOT labeled "Final" as its version, your added information may
not neccessarily be used. We could possibly already know your information, but
have not gotten to that section yet. So, do not guarantee that we will post your
comments just because you were nice enough to e-mail us.
Now, for a little more about an "acceptable" e-mail, let's talk about the
subject of the e-mail. We get a lot of e-mails about other FAQs that we have
written, so we can easily miss your e-mail unless you identify it. So, in the
subject line, please include the words "NHL HOCKEY '94" in your subject
line. This makes it a lot easier to sort things out in our e-mail. If you do
not refer to what game you are commenting/asking for help on, we will most
likely ignore the entire e-mail.
The last aspect that we would like to talk about is reading the FAQ. If you are
in doubt, check around the entire FAQ before coming to us for direct help. It
is likely that information is in other parts of the FAQ, and not neccessarily
the part that you are looking at during that very moment. Any comments that are
already answered in this FAQ will simply be ignored and blocked, as we have
taken a lot of time to write this guide for you, you can do a little something
for us as well.
If any of the above guidelines are not followed correctly your e-mails will be
considered "unacceptable" and I am sure you know what that means. We personally
think that it will be simple to follow the guidelines, and you will not have to
worry very much about the process. Thanks you, again, for your cooperation.

Tap C - Will give you a quick wrist shot. This is the best way to get a shot
off early. This works well when trying to shoot on a breakaway. I will
explain these methods in the strategy section.
Hold C - The longer you hold the A button, the harder your player will shoot.
This is also know as a slapshot. More information will be given in the
strategy section.

N 4.0 Strategies N
H ---------------- H
L L
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the strategy section of this FAQ. I am going to give you strategies
that I have used over the years, so do not complain that you cannot do my
strategies. It is all I can offer!
-----------------
~-Ways to Score-~
-----------------
1. The Fake (works in NHLPA 93)
-----------------
I like to call this move the fake. Here is how to do it. First, head towards
the goalie with an offensive player. If you have a defensive player ahead of
you, try to head back and start the play over. If not, head up to the goalie.
I love how the goalies are very stupid in this game. Anyway, tilt the d-pad a
bit to the left or right (whichever you want to make the fake on) and quickly
change your direction to the other side. Then tap the A button to do a wrist
shot, and there you go! You have put the goal in the net, and you can listen
to the *pretty bad* sounding siren!
2. Wrap Around (works in NHLPA 93)
-----------------
This is a relatively easy way of scoring as well, but my personal favorite is
the fake move. Anyway, to do the wrap around, simply head to the other team's
zone of the ice. Try to get behind the net. This might be a good time to pass
so that the opposing team does not put you on your butt. So, head around the
net (just like a wrap around) and quickly dump the puck in the net. Try to
time it perfectly, and it will work every time. I will make a little diagram
for this move.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Follow the arrows.

-------------------------

| \_____/ \/.....This is where you tap A. (You can also do this on the
other side of the ice. Just change the diagram.
^
|
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Dive (NEW!)
-----------------
This is another simple way of scoring. Simply head down the ice (as if you were
ready to do the wrap around method) and head parallel to the red line (the red
line that is near the goalie). Then head into the crease, but do not hit the
goalie or else you will loose the puck. Instead, wait for the goalie to dive
for the puck, and then fire it with a wrist shot into the goal. This will give
you new chances to score.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. One-Timers (works in NHLPA 93)
-----------------
This is a simple way of scoring in this game, although I must say it is likely
to be the cheapest way of playing. I find that this works best off of the face
offs, but you can really do it anywhere. I like to win the face off back to my
defenseman, and have him press A to one-time the shot past the goalie. This
means that you must press A right as the puck comes to the player. I noticed
that it goes through the goalies 5-hole maybe 50% of the time. I would like to
say that this is very reasonable.
5. Run into the goalie
-----------------------
This is a very funny method. It actually work occasionally, but it can be hard
to do sometimes. What you have to do is head down the ice going towards the
goalie of the opposing team. When you get to the goalie in the crease, move
the D-Pad right and left continuously while moving forward. This can sometimes
poke the puck right into the net if you are at the right angle. I have scored
luckly many times, so it does work to some extent. If this does not work,
however, don't fuss over it, as there are many way of scoring in this game.
Just look above!
-------------------
~-Playing Defense-~
-------------------
1. Clear the Zone
-------------------
This is very important when you are on a penalty kill, just need to change your
line. Try to stay behind your net, and wait for your opponent to attack you. If
they come, go the opposite way that they came. This basically loses one of the
defenders. Now, pass the puck up ice so that your are past the red line. Then,
shoot the puck in so that the referees do not call you for icing. Change your
lines, and get ready to attack.
2. Change Lines
-------------------
This actually goes for offense and defense, but is a bit more important on the
defensive side. To keep your fastest players on the ice, you are going to have
to rest, and change your lines. This can catch the computer off guard at times
if you put a past person on the ice when they have slow backups in.
3. Clear the Net
-------------------
This is very important on defense. If a player of the opposing team is sitting
and waiting for a pass in front of the net, you have to do something. Simply
bump them out of the way. Also, try to keep a player in the crease at all
times so that if there are rebounds, you will be the first one to clear them
out. This can also be said about offense. Try to wait for your team members
to get in front of the net. This gives you a second chance at a goal if you
shoot from long range. They can always get the rebound and put the puck in
the net.
4. Check Players
-------------------
This is a very important tactic in which you should really learn. In this NHL
game, press the C button to check. B can also be used to poke check, but it
rarely ever works, so try to avoid it. Body checks, on the other hand, are very
useful. This involves taking the player out of the play so that they cannot
advance. In this case, when on defense always try to stay in front of your man.
This will allow you to check them with the most success.
