"This is truly the best Sonic game"
Ok this is my first review on Gamefaqs so bare with me ^.^ Anyway's as my other websites imply (Slaygawebs, Myspace etc) I am a huge Sonic fan and one of his biggest fans and Sonic CD just happens to be one of my favorites. Here is the back story:
In 1992 the Sonic team split up to devolpe two Sonic games on was Sonic 2 released that year and the other was Sonic CD for the Sega CD a year later. This was devolved possibly as Sega's killer app for it's Cd compatable wonder yet it could'nt save the system even thought this game was critically accliamed. Now here's my Review:
Graphics: 9
Very good for it's time with the vivid backgrounds, and cleverly designed levals that focus on what time peroid your in example:
past: Lighter in color up for a change
present: colorful
future: Skrewed up and dark if you don't go back to the past and fix it, But vivid and colorful if you do. I don't care much about graphics.
Music/sound: (U.S) 9.5 (jp/euro) 10
There were two versions of this game the American and the Japanese/European version. The only thing different for each version is the music. Both sound tracks are good. They both fit the game and I like them the same so the reason why I gave the Japanese version a higher score was because the change was very unnessary. But for both the sound is very crisp and high quality plus both have vocal tracks: Sonic- You can do anything & Cosmic eturinty(Jp/euro) and Sonic Boom opening and closing (American version) Note: The American version is done by Spencer Nilsen who did Ecco for the same system.
Gameplay: 10
Most of the Sonic games of that era had great Gameplay. It's just like playing Sonic one. Plus two new moves Super peel out and the spindash. Also let you know you can go back in time which is unique in a Sonic game which has to be this games best feature. Also you can do special stages to get Time stones instead of Chaos Emeralds.
Story: 9
Yes there is a story (acctually there is a story in almost every Sonic game) The story is that Dr. Eggman captures little planet and Sonic's self appointed lover Amy Rose He needs Little Planet times stones to take over the world by mastering time. And the only to free them both is to set the time on little planet right and to defeat Eggman and Metal Sonic. Compared to Lunar and other games on the Sega CD it lacks story but It's a very good one for a Sonic game during the time.
Anime opening: 10
OMFG!!! there is a Cinamatic open in this game like other Sega CD games and an Ending. Yes it acctually runs smooth and adds more to the story. Very innovating for a Sonic game.
Rent or buy: If you have a Sega CD buy it if you don't buy one and this game. Or buy it on the PC or Sonic Gems collection for Gamecube. But I highly think you should buy a Sega CD just to play this. I would! ^_^
Bottomline: If your a Oldschoolgamer/ Sonicfan buy this if your someone who's just got into the series via oldschool games buy it. But if your a casual gamer I don't think you'll like this title very much.
