Night Trap
Review by Zylo the wolf
"Take me back to the time when games were as creative as Night Trap."
Video games have many times gotten a few bad words from parents who says that video games makes their children into insane murders and teach them wrong moral values. One of the best examples is Mortal Kombat which included more blood and violence than what any other game have had, but the angry parents didn't just dislike a game with much violence, no there was another game that got a lot of attention in the media as one of the most dangerous games for children. Night Trap was also a very dangerous game for children, which I personally don't understand how it could be dangerous at all.
The story about Night trap is that five teenage girls have mysteriously disappeared after spending the night at the Martins house. Nobody knows what has happened to them, but now another 5 girls are going to have a slumber party at the Martin's house. What neither the Martin family or the rest of the four girls is that Kelli (Who is played by Dana Plato) is actually an undercover agent with a mission to discover what has happened to the previous five girls.
The thing that makes the Martin's suspicious is that they have some weird security system. 8 rooms have a hidden camera in them, and there are also many different "traps" in each room. The purpose of this traps is unknown, but the S.C.A.T (Special Control Attack Team) have managed to take control of the traps. But the Martin's have a code that needs to be input for the traps to work, which are different colours.
Your job is to use these traps to protect Kelli and the other four girls from any danger. After a little playing you will see that the are weird looking creatures running around all over the house, and it's your job to trap as many of these creatures as you can. While you are looking around all over the house, it's important that you makes sure that the girls aren't in any danger, and also to have a good look on the Martin's family since they can switch the code to the traps at anytime.
One thing that is good in this game is that there's a clock in it. So it's easy to capture 100% of the monsters and don't miss any code change if you just write down at what time something happened. Since it's tricky to figure out how to use a trap, it's going to take a few tries before you figure out how these traps work.
The worst thing about this game is that the acting isn't really that great. Sure some say that it makes the game funnier to play just like there's some charm in the horrible voice acting in some other games, but most of the characters in this game are easy to forget, and most of the actors aren't really doing a good job at all. When you save a girl, she will run away from the house and never appear again, which means that you will never known if she got away from the creatures or not.
Night Trap have gotten a few awards as one of the worst launch titles (Never mind how horrible most of the launch titles for Wii and PS3 were) and also as one of the worst games of all time, which is really strange since there's a Night Trap clone on every system Night Trap have been released on that is much worse.
If you think it's okay that the game is more of an interactive movie than an actual game, then Night Trap is a game for you since it can be really challenging the first times you play it, however if you can't stand this type of game (Hey there are a lot of these kind of games on the Sega CD, perhaps you bought the wrong system?) then maybe you should ignore it.
