Lunar: The Silver Star
Review by btkirb2
"I've loved this game for years!!"
This is my first review ever and it seemed like a good idea to do it on one of the greatest games of all time.
The game starts off about a boy named Alex who lives in a tiny village wanting to go on an adventure. His friend Ramus comes up with an idea to go to a nearby cave and look for treasure. From then on the game becomes a great adventure. The characters are beautifully developed. You really get to know them. The translation is top notch.
Story- 10!
The gameplay is different than your average rpg. Your party and the enemies can move across the battle field which allows some strategy. Certain characters can move farther than others. Also characters can attack multiple time per turn. The menus are easy to navigate.
Gameplay- 10!
In the early 90s this game had great graphics. Obviously the graphics can't compare to newer games but they are still quite nice. There are quite a few cut scenes in the game also which add a lot to some of the more emotional scenes in the game., which there are plenty of. The game isn't too difficult and if you get stuck at a boss all you have to do is level up a bit.
Graphics 10! (not judged by today's standards)
Now on to the sound. This game has one of my favorite soundtracks. Noriyuki Iwadare composed the music for Lunar. The theme of Burg is beatiful and sounds exactly as it should. The battle music is very upbeat and gets you pumped. Throughout the game I never got sick of the battle music. It's just too good. I have the entire soundtrack downloaded on my computer and I cannot find one track that isn't cool.
Music 10+!
Lunar also has a bit of voice acting at a lot of the key story points. All I can say is the characters sound just how you would imagine them. The voice acting really adds to the emotion in a lot of the scenes that written text cannot. The game also has an opening theme song with lyrics that goes along to a cool cutscene. It's really awesome for a game back then to have something like that. I'm still impressed by it.
Voice acting- 10
As you can see this is an amazing game and if you have a Sega Cd and don't have this game or Lunar: Eternal Blue you need to get out and find them NOW!
