Sewer Shark
Review by Dude Love Fan
"Shoot the tubes Ratbreath!"
Introduction:
I have had my Sega CD for a while now, but it wasn't until recently that I have had the urge to pick up some more games. And just tonight I was at the mall, and saw this little gem, for only 3 bucks. I figured, ''How could I lose?'' and I figured right, because I would have missed a great game had I not picked this one up. I have had some people say this game is crappy, and I should break it. However, I think that this is an excellent FMV game, and can be enjoyed by anyone. Anyhow on to the review!
Graphics: 8/10
Since the graphics are video, it is expected of them to be good, and they are, but this isn't the best video quality, even at 1/4 screen. But since this was an early title, I can let that slide. The graphics consist of a video screen surrounded by a HUD, which IMO could be better, but is passable. Overall, the graphics are very good for 1992.
Sound: 7/10
I personally find the sound fitting, but I can see how some may find it annoying after a while. Since purchasing it, I have played for several hours in one stretch, and after so long, I tended to focus more on the gameplay than the music. I find the fact that the music doesn't try to drown out everything very nice.
Gameplay: 10/10
This is where the game shines. You are in a vehicle hurtling through the sewers while shooting creatures and trying to make it to the city. You have a robot going ahead of you and telling you a series of directions to follow. Follow them, and you're good to go, mess up and you're toast. My only gripe is that if you're not careful, you can get yourself stuck, and have to start all over because you shot to much, but since I understand that this is part of the strategy, I can live with it.
Overall: 9/10
I think this game is close to perfect, had it had better audio and visual quality it would have been a perfect FMV game, but it's few auditory, and visual flaws keep it from perfection. However if you are looking for a great Sega CD game, this one is definitely a great choice. So be sure not to pass on this one!
