Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch: Make My Video

Review by Buff McNoggin

"Marky Mark Make My Video I cast thee OUT!"

I love the early 90s. Many great things came out of that era and many of them are no longer with us. That being said many bad things came out of that era as well and are no longer with us.(Thankfully). Marky Mark is one of those bad things. But before he decided to stop with his horrid music he left one last black mark on the video game world. Make My Video: Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch for the Sega CD. Today there are tons of people at game companies that work hard to make sure games like this never hit shelves.

Story
None really. Its a game that deals with real music videos and doing things with them. There is no main enemy or adventure. The title speaks for itself. Making a video. 10/10

Gameplay
Awful. You have to work with Marky and three of his videos that are already bad enough, Good Vibrations, You gotta believe, and I need money, and make them appealing to a group of characters. The characters are a bunch of guys, a boxer, a group of girls and a set of parents. Each of these characters has thoughts about what they would like to see in the video. After you edit the three videos the characters give you feedback on what they think. After pleasing them. Guess what you get? A lame ending. It doesn't pay off because its still a Marky Mark Video and it for that it is awful. You can't polish a turd. 1/10

Graphics
Sega CD was one of the first console systems to use Full Motion Video. It looked okay on some of the games like Jurrassic Park. It didn't look good on this one. Granted on most early games with FMV the video was sort of gritty. This was downright terrible in my eyes though. It looked cloudy and choppy when actor motion was fast. When actor motion slowed down it looked like a cheap roll of film with images just being thrown on without even being cleaned up in processing. The effects look like they are just blobs of color that are thrown on top of live action. 1/10

Controls
Easy to manage and done well. You move to the appropriate editing areas with the directional and select with the buttons. Its responsive. 10/10

Sound
You have to hear Marky Mark talk in garbled early voice speech. Its bad because its not clear and horrid because its Marky Mark talking. The actors playing the characters speak in garbled early voice speech too. If the disc is bad sometimes it looks the words don't even match their lips. The songs are very clear and don't clip or skip if the disc is good shape. 5/10

Replayability
None. Its useless after completing it and embarresing when people see it in your closet. 0/10

Final Reccomendation
Stay away from this game. Its game that was born out of sin. The game makers broke one the 20 commandments of video game making. "Thou shall not make games concerning bad rappers and there poorly created songs"
