The Amazing Spider-Man vs. the Kingpin

Review by Arguro

"Hidden Hit on the Sega CD"

The Amazing Spider-man vs the King Pin isn't a very well known game. It is, however, a very innovative and awesome game. You control spider man and you have 24 hours of real time to disarm a bomb that King Pin has set somewhere within the city. The game blends great beat 'em up style with animated cinematics with Marvel Comic's Spider-Man and all the associated characters to make one very sweet game - even for those who are not big on Spider-man such as my self.

Game play
The game play here is amazing. You guide Spider-man through the city in search of a bomb that the King Pin has hidden and set to explode in 24 hours. There are an array of bosses that you must fight as well as As far as I know, it is the first game to use real-time. You have exactly 24 hours to beat the game once you start it. This adds to the challenge and keeps you coming back to see if you can beat it in a faster time. There is also a password system so you don't have to beat it all in one sitting. The passwords will return you to the last boss you defeated. Very innovative and well done.

Graphics
The graphics are superb, especially for its day. The Sega CD really helps deliver here. The animated movies to tell the story of the game are nicely done. Just like watching a cartoon. The in game graphics are crisp and well done. Spiderman looks good and the villains look even better. The game is just fun to look at. Everything is in great detail and it leaves nothing to the imagination. The overview of the city even looks very nice.
Score 10

Sounds and Music
The game's one flaw lays here. Sega CD was promoted as having real actors and real time video but notorious for those actors to be God awful. Here is no exception. In the animated cinematics, the voices are poorly done. When you die, the doctor says that you are in no shape to do anything but he does not say it in a convincing matter what so ever. This is a common problem throughout the Sega CD library though so it is to be expected. The in game music, however, is awesome. It does not get annoying and there are even some music tracks incorporated into the game that add to the originality.
Score 7

Overall, the game has way more positives than negatives. It's innovative style will keep you addicted to this game for a long time. It's a must have for any Sega CD owner.

Pros
1. Real Time makes it very fun
2. Any Spider-man fan will love the game for incorporating all the characters
3. Awesome graphics

Cons
1. Bad voice acting as we see in all Sega CD games.
