"A Game that came with console purchases from 1986-1989, it was a great start to the System!!"

This game was included with most SMS system purchases from 1986-1989. It is one good game that takes advantage of sega's card format. Made in 1985, it's graphics and sound were fairly good for its time, but in those days, you only needed gameplay.

Neck breaking speeds, tight curves and world-class competition makes Sega's Hang On the most exciting motorcycle racing game around! Hop aboard your supercycle and test your racing skill against the top riders on earth! Think you can beat them all to the finish line? Prove It!
Graphics 6.5/10

This was Quite good for it's time considering it's on a card. It has 6 different landscapes, with it looking quite nice. The title screens just a black screen with some lettering. The bikes are not badly detailed, they could have been a bit better. The control panel is fine and goes with the country of origins speed measurement (miles,Kilometers). But overall the graphics are above average, making it nice to look at.

Sound 3/10

Literally, this is no BGM except for the nice opening music on the title screen. The sound you here for starting the game is a few beeps to tell when it starts. Then its just a silly sound that emulates a motorcycle sound. Overall the sound is Poor.

Story N/A

Racing games don't have stories obviously.

Gameplay 8.5/10

This game was developed without the graphics and sound in mind. All that mattered here was GAMEPLAY. Race through 6 different tracks through 8 Courses. Motorcycle games are usually appalling for classic systems (take SEGA'S turbo for instance on the colecovision)but this one has non stop gameplay with a twist. Although your not racing against anyone or the computer, you still enjoy playing the game until you finish it. Consider it a great way to kill some time while playing something interesting.

Lastability 9.7/10

This is great to play until you finish the game. I mean, you wouldn't have a reason to play it again but it is a great one to play for hours on end (or until you finish it!). Pure classic addictiveness here.

Difficulty 8/10

This shines in it's difficulty. Since it is addictive, it obviously has to be quite hard. It rates high since it has so many levels of increasing difficulty! But still it has a plus because it has a great addictiveness to it.

Summary

Graphics 6.5/10
Sound 3/10
Story N/A
Gameplay 8.5/10
Lastability 9.7/10
Difficulty 8/10
Overall 7.1/10 (Rounded Down for 7 For GAMEFAQS)

Good Points
-Addictive Gameplay
-Great Graphics
-Play For Hours on End
-Nice amount of Difficulty

Bad Points
-Sound is Quite Crappy
-The Sequels Bad

A Classic and great sms game that earns it's history well. Don't bother about it's sequel on the genesis ''Super Hang On'' as it ruins the addictiveness of the gameplay with flashy features.
