"The average chess game , but good for Master System."

Sega Chess is the average sort of chess game. It more has PC feel to me as I play it on my Master System emulator. When you boot up the game, you have an options screen. You have many difficulty levels, from beginner to Grand Chess Master. I'm not very good at chess, getting this as a solution to get better so I would generally play beginner. On the actual game, you can play on a 2D board or the 3D board. They are both good, but I prefer the 2D board.

The graphics on this game are good. For an 8 bit console, you wouldn't really expect a 3D board, but there is one. The 3D board is drawn in a perspective view. The 3D board is an excellent attempt for the Master System. The problems are that it is quite hard to make out what a piece is, like if its a king or a queen, and the other pieces can generally get in the way. It doesn't feel as good as the 2D board. The 2D board is just a feature which you ought to find on every chess game. It is sometimes better to play on this board because you can concentrate better. The pieces look how they should. Score: 9/10

The sound isn't a highlight of the game at all. It is just a few beeps when you move a piece, and there is a tune on the starting video. There is a speech mode, where it says, ''Check'', ''right move'' and ''2D board'' or ''3D board.'' The speech sounds very fuzzy. Just think how Pikachu talks on Pokemon Yellow. Fuzzy. Score: 6/10

The gameplay is how you would expect on a chess game. It is normal and how you would expect. The computer is complicated and tricky to play against, especially on beginner mode. There are a lot of modes for the chess champs around. There are some options, like to swap sides, have a hint move, that really doesn't do owt. You can force best move by the computer, so it doesn't think. On 3D board you can rotate the board. You also have the option to play against a friend, but you might be better off playing it for real. How you would expect. Score: 8/10

Last of all, the games life span. The game isn't one you would want to play every moment of your life, but it's there if you feel like a chess challenge, or don't have any friends to play against. I'm not saying it has a short length. Score: 7/10

You can't rent the game for two nights, like I said it is there if you feel like a chess challenge. You don't even have to buy it. Download it off the internet for free for your Master System emulator.

Overall this is an average chess game, with lots of difficulty levels and a good 3D board. It is there if you are desperate for a game of chess, and don't have anyone to play against. Overall Score: 7/10
