Introduction*** ********************* I am writing this guide for Harvest Moon, because I really enjoyed playing it. Crops are an essential part of this game and you must know a bit about crops before you begin. This is what this short little in- depth guide will cover. It will talk about all the crops and how much it will cost you and what you get for the return price. I hope this short guide can help you become a better overall farmer and get you tons of money. ******************* ***2. Disclaimer*** ******************* This FAQ is copyright 2002-2003 Albert Cho and can not be used on your site unless you have my permission. Version History*** ************************ 1.1 (1/24/03)- Happy new year people. I know it's a bit late, but anyway here is the last update to this small FAQ. I might do a layout change later. 1.0 (11/3/02)- Started this guide. The rough draft is in and I listed all the crops available for this game and what you get for it. I will also list some strategies for the crop growing. ************************************** ***4. Sites that can use this guide*** ************************************** These are the only sites that have my permission to post this guide on their site www.gamefaqs.com www.neoseekers.com www.romgalore.cjb.net **************************** ***5. Info about the game*** **************************** This story is basically about you starting out as a farmer in a run- down farm. Your parents will be away for 3 years, and you must show them that you were capable of handling the farm. Do not let your parents down. You can grow crops, raise livestock and try to become successful. You should get married have a kids and be overall happy and content with you simple life. It may sound easy, but this game is more complicated then it looks. ******************************* ***6. Formations of the Crop*** ******************************* To efficiently water and manage your crops they must be in a specific order. The formations listed below are tried methods and I find them to be the most effective. Harvest Moon has a time limit, so you need to be able to gather and water crops efficiently or else you will run out of time. The rest of this of guide will talk in the formations below so make sure you try out mine, before making some up yourself. If you know some good formations, don't hesitate to e-mail me and explain why you believe it is good. I will probably add the formation in, on a later update. This is how the formations should be read. I made a little legend. Remember, the crop seeds can only go in a maximum of 9 squares. ******************** *X- Crop * *0- No crop there * ******************** Formation #1: This formation is what you should use in the beginning to fully utilize the funds coming in. Later on you may switch, but I know some people who used this formation to the end. The side at the right side is left out because you must go in there to water the middle crop. It may be time consuming later, but I personally like this method. ********* * X X X * * X X 0 * * X X X * ********* Formation #2: This formation must be used later on, when you can afford it. You must waste a lot of crops, but this method is very fast to water and picking the crops is very easy. Later on, you will probably have to switch to this method, or else you will run out of time. The middle of the row is cut off, because you will stand right in the middle and water them all at once. This will save so much time. Picking is also easy, because all you have to do is use the middle. ********** * X X X * * 0 0 0 * * X X X * ********** ****************** ***7. Crop List*** ****************** Harvest Moon is a farming game, so obviously it will have a variety of crops. I will first talk about the crops you can grow in the Spring, then the ones that can only grow in the Summer. ********** **Spring** ********** ********** **Turnip** ********** This is your basic crop that will grow in the spring. It is the fastest growing crop available and is a nice way to make some quick cash. In the beginning of the game when you have no money, I suggest you start out with turnips and make some quick cash, before trying out potatoes. It is a quicker and safer method of getting cash. ********************************** **Crop Profits with Formation #1** ********************************** --------------------------------------------- Cost of the Turnip Bag: 200 Gold --------------------------------------------- Time it takes to grow: 4 Days --------------------------------------------- Profit for 1 Turnip: 60 Gold --------------------------------------------- Need to Replant?: Yes --------------------------------------------- Overall Profit for 1 Harvest: 480 Gold --------------------------------------------- Profit you should make the season: 1960 Gold --------------------------------------------- ********************************** **Crop Profits with Formation #2** ********************************** --------------------------------------------- Cost of the Turnip Bag: 200 Gold --------------------------------------------- Time it takes to grow: 4 Days --------------------------------------------- Profit for 1 Turnip: 60 Gold --------------------------------------------- Need to replant?: Yes --------------------------------------------- Overall Profit for 1 Harvest: 360 --------------------------------------------- Profit you should make the season: 1120 --------------------------------------------- ************ **Potatoes** ************ This is more expensive then a regular Turnip. This crop takes a bit longer to grow, so I suggest you get this after you harvest your turnips. I suggest you do get a few potato crops harvested, because you will definitely see a money increase. ********************************** **Crop Profits with Formation #1** ********************************** --------------------------------------------- Cost of the Potato Bag: 200 Gold --------------------------------------------- Time it takes to grow: 6 Days --------------------------------------------- Profit for 1 Potato: 80 Gold --------------------------------------------- Need to replant?: Yes --------------------------------------------- Overall Profit for 1 Harvest: 640 --------------------------------------------- Profit you should make the season: 2200 --------------------------------------------- ********************************** **Crop Profits with Formation #2** ********************************** --------------------------------------------- Cost of the Potato Bag: 200 Gold --------------------------------------------- Time it takes to grow: 6 Days --------------------------------------------- Profit for 1 Potato: 80 Gold --------------------------------------------- Need to replant?: Yes --------------------------------------------- Overall Profit for 1 Harvest: 480 --------------------------------------------- Profit you should make the season: 1960 --------------------------------------------- ********** **Summer** ********** ********** **Tomato** ********** The tomato is the least expensive of the summer crops, but yield a lot more then the spring crops. I suggest having at least 1 patch of tomato crops, because they grow faster then corn. You will notice that both corn and tomato take ages to grow, however they also give much more money and you don't need to replant, so it evens out. ********************************** **Crop Profits with Formation #1** ********************************** --------------------------------------------- Cost of the Tomato Bag: 300 Gold --------------------------------------------- Time it takes to grow: 10 Days --------------------------------------------- Profit for 1 Tomato: 100 Gold --------------------------------------------- Need to replant?: No --------------------------------------------- Overall Profit for 1 Harvest: 800 --------------------------------------------- Profit you should make the season: 5300 --------------------------------------------- ********************************** **Crop Profits with Formation #2** ********************************** --------------------------------------------- Cost of the Tomato Bag: 300 Gold --------------------------------------------- Time it takes to grow: 10 Days --------------------------------------------- Profit for 1 Tomato: 100 Gold --------------------------------------------- Need to replant?: No --------------------------------------------- Overall Profit for 1 Harvest: 600 --------------------------------------------- Profit you should make the season: 3900 --------------------------------------------- ******** **Corn** ******** Corn takes the longest to grow, but once it does, you have an awesome money making plant. This crop will get you tons of money, so I suggest getting tons of corn and reaping in the money. You should buy a cow with the money you will get from this crop. It is however, the longest growing crop available and can get frustrating over time. ********************************** **Crop Profits with Formation #1** ********************************** --------------------------------------------- Cost of the Corn Bag: 300 Gold --------------------------------------------- Time it takes to grow: 13 Days --------------------------------------------- Profit for 1 Corn: 120 Gold --------------------------------------------- Need to replant?: No --------------------------------------------- Overall Profit for 1 Harvest: 960 --------------------------------------------- Profit you should make the season: 5760 --------------------------------------------- ********************************** **Crop Profits with Formation #2** ********************************** --------------------------------------------- Cost of the Corn Bag: 300 Gold --------------------------------------------- Time it takes to grow: 13 Days --------------------------------------------- Profit for 1 Corn: 120 Gold --------------------------------------------- Need to replant?: No --------------------------------------------- Overall Profit for 1 Harvest: 720 --------------------------------------------- Profit you should make the season: 4320 --------------------------------------------- ************************** ***8. Natural Disasters*** ************************** This short section is to inform you about several natural disasters that can occur on the farm. Rain: This little natural occurrence is a relief at times, but not at other times. If you left your cow outside at night (which you shouldn't) then the rain will make them sick. However, you do not have to water your crops, so this can save you lots of time. I personally want it to rain. Snow: This is a natural occurrence that is useless. It is nice to watch the scenery, but it really doesn't do anything besides making everything look nice and foggy like. Tornado: This is one of the worst natural disasters that can occur. Some of your crops will be destroyed and if you leave your animals out then they will die. This is bad and if it happens (and it will) then I feel sorry for you. Wild Dogs: If you leave your chickens outside then wild dogs will come in and eat them. They will also damage your fences and this can get annoying after you keep trying to repair your fences. **************** ***9. Seasons*** **************** This section will talk a little about each season. Spring: In the spring everything is colorful and beautiful. You can pick flowers and grapes and everything is nice. You can grow potatoes and turnips in this season. Besides rain there are no disasters so its not a time to worry. Summer: In the summer you can get the real money-growing crops. You can grow corn and tomatoes for tons of money. Tornadoes can happen this time of year, and this is going to be the busiest time of the year for you. Don't worry too much, because this is the season where you get the most money. Fall: In the fall you can not grow any crops, and it's the time of year where you should get lots of wood and grow plenty of grass before winter hits. You should gather daily vegetables from the woods so you can get some profit. You should have at least 1 cow by now, so make sure you feed and brush it. Winter: This is the time of season where there is nothing to do except take care of your animals. I hope that you grew a lot of grass, or else your animals are going to die. You should try to get married at this season or else get a girlfriend. There really is nothing much to do this season. ***************** ***10. Credits*** ***************** 1.
