I. THE BASICS
=============

Cowboys AND robots? It sounds too good to be true. But Natsume pulled it off
very well in their action-packed SNES game, Wild Guns. Take control of the bad-
ass (and uniquely named) Clint and Annie as you take down gunslingers and blow
up huge robots throughout the insanely wild west.

Shooting
--------

Simply place your crosshairs over the enemy and press Y (default) to fire your
gun. Most enemies take more than one hit from your default rifle to kill; this
is especially true for robots. Hold Y to continue firing.

Lasso
-----

Your character can also throw a lasso to temporarily stun enemies. To throw it,
repeatedly press the Y button and then let go. This can come in handy
sometimes, but usually, you don't have much time to spend on charging it up.

Dodging
-------

You're going to be in a hailstorm of bullets throughout this game. Pay
attention to where the enemy crosshairs are in order to get out of the way,
because one hit and you're dead. Also watch for the "LOOK OUT!" speech bubble;
it may seem vague to some, but basically it means "MOVE" or "GET THE HELL OUT
OF THERE".

Fortunately, Clint and Annie can both roll, jump and double-jump out of harm's
way. Make sure to make good use of these abilities if you want to survive in
the harsh desert. To jump, simply hit B. Hit B in mid-air to double jump.
Holding Y while pressing B will cause you to dive and roll to the side.

Time
----

The level continues until there's no time left. Once time runs out, you face a
boss. Killing enemies makes the time go faster, so start shooting!

Bombs
-----

What's a western shooter without a super powerful explosive device that nukes
everything in sight? Not Wild Guns, that's for sure. Hit X to unleash one,
which will instantly destroy most non-boss units on the screen (and cause
significant damage to bosses). Be wary, however; you only start with three of
them, and will have to find others along your journey.

Items
-----

Throughout your journey, you'll encounter several items that add to your point
score.
Money bag: Worth 500 points.
Grey jewel: Worth 1000 points.
Blue jewel: Worth 1500 points.
Red jewel: Worth 5000 points.

Upgrades
--------

Your little rifle isn't cutting it these days, what with all the giant cowboy
robots hanging around. Sometimes you need firepower, and boy howdy, you're
gonna find some of that.

Shotgun (S): The trusty shotgun deals out damage over a spread area. Pretty
useful for when you're fighting grouped enemies.

Machine Gun (M): It's a miracle how these things don't overheat. With an insane
firing speed, you can bring down the toughest of bosses quickly. Using a
machine gun is lots of fun, as you can just spray across the screen and
probably wipe out everyone.

Grenade Launcher (G): Slow, but very powerful. Extremely useful for those tough
robots that take a while to bring down, as well as bosses.

Peashooter (P): Not even the slowest of cowpokes is going to be hurt by this
thing. If you get one, hurry up and deplete its ammo so you can switch back to
your standard rifle.

Vulcan - OHHHHH BABY. When the little meter in the bottom left gets full, your
character will go into super bad-ass butt-kicking mode and somehow pull out a
Vulcan. Extremely powerful, fast firing rate and a large area of effect make it
the most useful gun in the game; with this, you can take down any boss easily.
Unfortunately, you only have access to it for a few seconds, so make them
count!

II. THE WALKTHROUGH
===================

Make sure you set up the difficulty before you start playing. If you're a first
timer, definitely go with easy. You can also adjust controls. Then go ahead and
start the game. You can change the color of your character's clothes with X, Y
and B.

                                  -----------
CARSON CITY
                                  -----------

STAGE 1
-------

You start outside Carson City, and the gunfight starts right away. You'll see
cowboys walking in the background (from left to right or right to left); these
guys can be taken out in one hit. You will also run into a knife-wielding
cowboy, who will try to stab you from the side. These guys are easily taken
care of by hitting Y when they get close to you.

You will see some other enemies in the windows at the top right of the area,
but they won't fire at you. They sometimes drop items and weapons if you kill
them, though. There are also enemies in the cart at the right edge of town and
in the wagon on the left edge. Go ahead and blow up the wagon, so that no more
enemies can fire at you. You will also get a blue diamond. Also, blow up the
electronic stuff in the upper left corner for a bomb.

You will also see a bunch of yellow-shirted cowboys after a while. Mow them
down, but beware; they will all fire at the same time. You might also encounter
a robot enemy moving from the edge of the screen. Take them out quickly; if you
let them open up, they will fire six bullets at you.

Once time runs out, you will face your first boss, a bipedal cowboy robot. This
guy has three attacks. First, it can fire six bullets immediately at any time
towards the ground; take notice of the enemy crosshairs and jump over the
bullets. Second, it will fire a different kind of attack at the ground directly
in front of it. You can tell if it's going to do this because it'll pause for a
second and aim it's gun towards you before firing. Finally, it can jump and
then fire four bullets directly at you. Make sure to sidestep/dive out of the
way of these. Wait until you've dodged all the bullets before returning fire.

STAGE 2
-------

Stage 2 takes place inside a saloon. Go ahead and blow up all the tables for
money and/or weapons. Various cowboys will roll behind them for cover while
shooting at you; you can't kill them while they're rolling. In the meantime,
bartenders will chuck dynamite at you from behind the bar. Make sure you get
away from the dynamite before it explodes.

Eventually, a pair of red robots will descend from the ceiling. These guys
won't shoot unless you get too close to them. In that case, they'll spread out
several bullets on the ground in front of them. Jump out of the way if it
begins to fire.

The boss of this level is pathetically weak. After shooting him a few times, he
will crawl around on the ground for a bit before standing up and firing one
bullet at you. Dodge the bullet and shoot him until he starts crawling again.
Keep repeating this process until he's dead. It'll take a while, since he's
invincible while crawling.

STAGE 3
-------

How bad-ass is this?! A cowboy/girl in an intense rooftop battle against a huge
mech!!! AWESOME! This Gundam reject can be pretty tough. Its attacks include
launching six missiles (three pairs; there's a delay after the first pair) and
using its gatling gun to spray across the ground. The missile attacks should be
easily avoided by moving + jumping to the sides, while the gatling spray can be
dodged by simply double jumping. You know when he's going to use his gun
whenever he holds it steady with his other hand.

To take him down, just keep your crosshairs focused on his head. After a while,
it will blow into smithereens, while your gunslinger strikes a bad-ass pose.
How awesome can this game get?! Seriously, a wild west cowboy/girl just blew up
a huge mech!

Umm... At any rate, you have four choices for the next level. I recommend
Desolation Canyon next.

                               -----------------
DESOLATION CANYON
                               -----------------

STAGE 1
-------

This is a lot harder than the stages in Carson City. You'll have cowboys hiding
in bushes, as well as cowboys popping up out of the ground to shoot you. Also
look out for the giant robots in the background. They have the ability to stun
you, and with so many enemies on the screen at once, that likely means death.
They take a LOT of bullets to kill, however, so it's probably just best to stay
away from them and concentrate on the regular enemies. The only other enemy in
this stage is a cowboy riding some sort of robot. They can be hard to hit, so
make sure you keep your eye on incoming bullets.

The boss here is a trenchcoat-wearing robot. If this guy starts running, watch
out; it's going to spray bullets directly on the ground in front of it. Make
sure you jump if he's nearby, because he'll run and shoot at the same time. If
he's not running, get ready for a few bullets aimed directly at you. His final
attack is throwing three sticks of dynamite, but this is rare. He can take a
while to kill, but if you play it smart, you should be able to finish him
without dying.

STAGE 2
-------

You now head inside a cavern. Watch out for divers; they have mortars that will
fire if you don't take them out quickly enough. You will also see the regular
cowboys in the background shooting at you; again, they're invincible while
rolling. The big thing to worry about in this stage are the hovering green mech
things. They often appear in groups of five and shoot bullets diagonally
towards the ground (both left and right). Try to stay between the crosshairs
and take them out.

The boss here is rather tough. He's a gold version of the other mechs. He
doesn't directly attack, but he does fly around everywhere and spawn those
green mechs you've been fighting earlier. But what really makes him lethal is
the ability to stun you. If he's spawned a lot of the green types, this could
mean trouble. If you get stunned, quickly press all the buttons and get out of
the way of the crosshairs. I don't recommend firing until right after he uses
the stun attack. The key to winning this is taking your time and avoiding the
green mech bullets as well as the gold mech's stun attacks, while concentrating
all firepower on the gold one. He will spawn green ones faster than you can
kill them, so don't bother with that.

STAGE 3
-------

Whoooa, mama. Where were these back in the wild days? Like the previous big
boss, this guy has two main attacks. First, it can fire six missiles; but
unlike the last boss, these fall one at a time, not in pairs. Its other attack
is a flamethrower. This attack can be extremely difficult to avoid. He will
either swing the flame towards the ground (in which case you should double
jump) or swing it through the air (in which case you should do anything BUT
jump). The thing is, it's pretty hard to determine which one he's going to use.
What compounds the problem is that sometimes he will swing towards the right
one way, and then swing it back the other way. He can also hold the flame right
in the middle of the screen and then fire a few missiles before finishing
swinging it to the other side and back! The random movements of the flame is
what makes this boss so hard, and you're going to have to use your best
judgments to decide whether the flame attack is going to be high or low.

After the boss, you get to go to a bonus stage where you shoot up wooden
enemies for points. Yippee. After that, go ahead and select the Ammunition
Depot.

                                ----------------
AMMUNITION DEPOT
                                ----------------

STAGE 1
-------

First off all, take out that machine gun turret on the right edge of the
screen. This thing will harass you throughout the whole stage if you don't
destroy it. After that you can start concentrating on the other enemies. The
guys with blue shirts will throw dynamite at you; don't be afraid to pick it up
and throw it back. Other cowboys with green shirts will walk around in the
background trying to shoot you, while other baddies will be hiding in windows
and stuff. Finally, the knife-wielding guy makes an appearance again, trying to
stab you from up close. Make sure you destroy the tractor for a bomb!

The boss of this stage is pretty much the same boss you fought in Stage 1 of
Desolation Canyon. The only difference between them is that this guy fires more
bullets, and that the knife guy will continue to annoy you throughout the
battle. Make sure the boss is not firing at you while you take out the knife
cowboy.

STAGE 2
-------

More new enemies in here. You'll find guys holding huge body shields; they're
invincible until they move aside their cover to shoot. You only have a limited
time to nail them after they shoot, so make it count. Robots in the background
will also move from side to side, firing mortars at you. Take them out before
they get close! If you destroy them completely, you usually get an item or
weapon.

Also look out for the knife guy again. Didn't anybody tell these guys not to
bring a knife to a gunfight? Seriously, what are these guys thinking? The final
type of enemy is a big robot that hovers around. If it quickly moves and then
stops, watch out! It's going to unleash a hail of bullets directly below it.

The boss of this area is the same boss you fought in Stage 2 of Carson City.
Shoot, wait for him to stop crawling, dodge his shot and then shoot again.
Repeat until he's dust. The only difference here is that the big robot you
fought earlier in the stage will appear to harass you. Go ahead and fire at it
while the boss is crawling around. Make sure you're not under it while you're
shooting the boss.

STAGE 3
-------

This one is a doozy. It looks like a big mecha stingray. You have to fire at
the big blue orb on top of it. In the meantime, cowboys will come out of the
side doors to shoot you. All the boss can do at this point is shoot a bunch of
slow-moving bullets. Keep firing until you damage the blue orb. Once it
shatters a little bit, the boss will also throw stun attacks at you. You can
tell if he's going to do this because it will pause for a second before firing
them. Make sure to dodge them before firing.

Once you destroy the orb further, the boss becomes insanely harder. It will
launch a bunch of electrical orbs in the sky. These orbs will rain down on you
for the remainder of the battle. These things suck because they start off
falling slow, but then pick up speed when they're about to reach the ground.
The best course of action would be to just make sure there's no orb around you,
and then double-jump when a cowboy tries to shoot your or the boss tries to
stun you. Don't try dodging to the side, as you're bound to run into one of the
electrical charges. Luckily for you, the boss stops firing bullets at this
stage. Keep shooting, and it will eventually go down. Steve Irwin has been
avenged.

                                   ---------
GOLD MINE
                                   ---------

STAGE 1
-------

You are standing on some railway tracks right outside of a mine. Enemy cowboys
will slide down the mine from very, very far way. However, they have extremely
good aim, so make sure you take them out. Miners will also ride mine carts
towards you. They will either throw dynamite from distance or get up close and
try to off you with their pickaxes. To take out the pickax guys, just hit Y
when you're in front of them. If you destroy the dynamite guys, you can get
items and weapons. You will also encounter a huge enemy blimp in the background
that will rain down bullets along the ground to the side. Try to take this
thing out. The boss here is the same robot cowboy boss you fought during Stage
1 of Carson City. Same attacks, same everything, same difficulty. Lay him to
waste.

STAGE 2
-------

In the background, cowboys will roll around and try to shoot you, as usual. You
will also see cowboys dancing on top of mine carts chucking dynamite at you, as
well as the knife guy yet again. The red robots you fought in the casino will
appear as well. The first two land on the sides of the map, and a third one
lands in the middle. Again, just shoot at it from afar, and it's defenseless.

The boss here isn't too tough. It calls down two turret arms to shoot you. Take
them out before shooting the boss. They regenerate after a few seconds so make
the most of the time you have. The turrets will either fire three bullets (one
directly below and two diagonal) or three bullets directly at you. The latter
can be pretty difficult to dodge, so make sure you stay alert on what both guns
are doing.

STAGE 3
-------

GIANT ENEMY ROBOT CRAB?! Oh CRAP! You have to hit the green thing on its head.
In the meantime, two robotic crab arms will try to skewer you from the air. If
you stay in the middle, you shouldn't have to worry about that too much.
However, the crab will also fire bullets and stun beams at you. Make sure you
jump over both of these (the stun beams are only fired at the middle of the
screen, but they're easy to dodge; the signal for him firing them is holding
his claws to his mouth before moving them away).

After doing lots of damage to him, he'll block his face, and the claws will go
on a frenzy trying to stab you. Make sure you pay attention to how they're
moving, because they can sometimes hit you in the middle area. In this mode,
the crab is invincible, except for bomb attacks.

Once the crab lowers its guard, it will resume the old attacking methods,
except for one thing. It will occasionally open its shell, fire a few bullets
at you, and then spread a ton of bullets across the ground. Make sure you jump
over these. After you damage it some more, it will retreat into defense mode
again, and will do this a few more times before blowing up. MASSIVE DAMAGE!

Bonus stage #2! This time, you blow up a bunch of rocks and barrels. The
barrels contain some gold, so make them your priority. You will also see miners
quickly moving to the sides in their mine carts; one shot = 100 points.

                                 -------------
ARMORED TRAIN
                                 -------------

STAGE 1
-------

This level can be annoying. It takes place on a moving train, while a bunch of
enemies will fire at you from afar. The flying guys will chuck dynamite at you
while guys in horses and motorized vehicles will take shots at you. There is
also a little mini-train thing that fires a bunch of mortars at you. Quickly
take these out, as well as the guys running it, for lots of points (and
sometimes a weapon).

Eventually, you'll be fighting against an enemy train. This thing has a turret
and a missile launcher. You can tell when the turret is about to fire because
it will let out blue steam before launching a hail of bullets. Quickly take out
the missile launcher first, as well as any of the flying guys that are chucking
dynamite at you. The turret is really hard to kill, so it's better to just wait
for time to run out. You will also see some guys moving along the train. If
they get to the top, they'll start hula dancing and chucking stun lassos at
you.

The next section of the train is just as tough. You'll face another turret, as
well as an endless supply of cowboys jumping behind crates. For the most part,
you should be concentrating on the cowboys, because again, the turret is
extremely difficult to kill. Just pay attention to when it's about to fire and
get out of the way. The cowboys will shoot you as well as lasso you, so take
care of them ASAP.

You're not done yet! One more section of train. Luckily, this one is a lot
easier. Take out the two missile turrets first and foremost. But pay attention
to the main part of the train. If it flashes blue, it will launch out a bunch
of stun lassos. If yellow, it will fire a stream of bullets all across the
ground. Both are pretty easy to dodge. Keep firing and bam, no more train.

But wait!!! Not over yet! A guy comes flying in with a jetpack, eager to
exasperate you even further. Now this guy is tough. Most of the time, he'll
hover here and there, but he moves around pretty fast, so it can be hard to hit
him. His attacks include firing a few bullets at you, chucking a ton of
dynamite sticks, and a last attack that can catch you off guard. Occasionally,
he'll fly up to the top of the screen (out of sight) and appear on the edge of
the train. He'll then fly straight towards you with a knife in his hand. Make
sure you jump/double jump to avoid this! You will also have to dodge bullets
from cowboys on horses in the background. This guy has a lot of health, so good
luck.

                                  -----------
FINAL FIGHT
                                  -----------

STAGE 1
-------

Here it is! The final battle. You start off against two cowboy robots. They're
the same as the ones you fought before, but they're obviously tougher now since
you have to take on two at a time. Concentrate on one first, and then the
other. Pay attention to both of their movements at all times. If one jumps,
stop firing and start dodging. Also look for the crosshairs to see if you're in
the line of fire of its ground attack.

STAGE 2
-------

The trenchcoat guys here are a lot weaker than the ones you've faced before.
All they can do is fire a few bullets directly in front of them. A few machine
gun turrets will also be descending from the ceiling; take these out quickly.
Finally, those robots you fought in the very first stage will appear here,
moving around in the background. It can be hard to take them out (since they're
behind the cover of money bags and golden bricks), but make sure you can at
least dodge the bullets they fire at you. The boss here is that same crawling
guy you've fought twice already. He's still the same joke he ever was.

STAGE 3
-------

Cowboys will crawl out from behind cover in the background, while robots will
fire mortar shells from afar. You also have to look out for the knife guys one
final time. The boss here is the machine gun above the door. If it starts
flashing white, it's going to unleash a bunch of bullets in the form of a
circle. Make sure you dodge to the side. If you can't, you can alive by placing
yourself right in the center of the barrage. Also, look out for the red
hovering robots, which will fire bullets directly below it.

FINAL STAGE
-----------

Finally, it's time to face the big bad boss that made you go through all this
trouble. Before covering him, I'll tell you about the other stuff you have to
worry about. Two machine gun turrets will appear on the level, one on each
side. These will only fire bullets directly near them. Purple cowboys will also
fire at you from the background; they fire two shots a piece. I recommend
taking out the turrets first, but be wary, as they will be replaced by two more
after a while.

As for the boss, he has plenty of attacks. He has a machine gun which can spray
bullets directly on the ground in front of him; jump over these. He can also
roll around and toss dynamite at you. If he rolls, get ready, because he's
going to appear on the foreground at the edge of your screen and try to beat
you with his weapon. Make sure you beat him first.

His final attack is probably the most worrisome. He will point is gun up in the
air and fire a shot. You have to pay VERY close attention to this. If smoke
comes out of the sides of his gun, he's going to fire a ROW of flames. You have
to dodge this by jumping/double jumping before it hits. If not smoke comes out
of the sides of his gun, he's going to shoot a missile that causes a COLUMN of
flames. You have to dodge this by moving/diving to the side. This can be almost
impossible to judge, especially if you're trying to dodge shots from the purple
guys.

After a long, hectic battle, your character will have a (very short)
conversation with the boss, as the base explodes and you escape. The credits
roll before you can input your name as a high score.
