Review by Glutted

"What do you get when you combine a 2-D sidescroller game with puzzles? Lost Vikings, of course!"

When I first heard about this game a good 5 years ago, I wasn't quite sure about it. Though I love those old, classic side-scrollers and love puzzle games, I felt like the game would not be worth a try. Needless to say, I still ordered this game from Amazon. I played it, and learned that puzzle games and sidescrollers combine very well! Now I have a fun and addicting SNES game in my hands!

Storyline: 7/10

In Lost Vikings you will get to play as one of three merry Vikings, who love nothing more than a good day of sailing and fishing. Unexpectedly, an evil alien spaceship captures the three Vikings. You must get the Vikings back to their time. Sound simple, eh? Well wait until you see what lies ahead for these guys. From crazy jungles to pyramids, you will be given an overload of puzzles.

Graphics: 8/10

Although The Lost Vikings doesn't really break (or set) any records for SNES game graphics, it's really not too shabby in terms of graphics either. It makes great use of all the possible colors for SNES games, and you will catch yourself moving the Vikings around just to enjoy the colorful stages. You can sometimes read the Vikings' facial expressions, as well as see their clothes and weapons in detail

Sound/Music: 8/10

You will either love this music or you hate it. Every few levels, they change the music to match the environment. The music can be a bit repetitive after a while, but it really does fit with the game. I personally love the soundtrack, but a lot of people I talk to seem to think it's a little too over-the-top. I personally like the soundtrack the a lot. Lost Vikings 2 has memorable music with a great beat. After a few minutes of playing, you'll find yourself tapping your feet on the couch to the beat of the music. The only bad thing is that the music is really repetitive, and some people may be tempted to just turn off the volume while playing.

Gameplay: 9/10

This is what makes the Lost Vikings such a unique and enjoyable gaming experience. Its like combining Mario 2-D sidescroller games with puzzle games like Resident Evil. You will use each of the Viking's unique powers to complete each level... You have do teamwork to complete the levels. The basic idea is pretty simple, but it can be extremely frustrating once the game starts getting really hard.

Overall: 8/10

Although unappreciated and a bit underrated, you would be challenged to find any video game as entertaining and funny as this. As the game's difficulty greatly increases each level, it gets even more humorous. When I first got this game, I couldn't put it down for 5 hours! I just played, played, and played. Since the game gets pretty hard, it is very hard to put down once you start.

The game starts off relatively easy to get you hooked, and then it gets almost unbeatably hard when you get towards the end. Although hard, this game can be really enjoyable, addictive, and entertaining. If you haven't already, stop off at a game store and buy this game… don't miss out on this epic adventure!
