Review by D'Hoost

"Argh, ye sea dogs... ****, I forgot these guys are really DOGS"

Goofy was always the lovable sidekick to Mickey. He and Donald are an incredible duo, even in the recent Kingdom Hearts series where they outdid all of the other characters in sentimental value AND in comedy.

Goofy got a spinoff to go with it, and that spinoff was called Goof Troop. It introduced a son named Max, and also focused on Pete and his new son, PJ. This game, simply put, pulls off of that show.

On the surface, it looks pretty stupid; Goof Troop was NOT a good show. Anyone of a decent age would find the show rather obnoxious and would have no interest in watching it, so you'd assume the game would be the same... but it's not. Rather than being a gimmicky game with inside jokes off of the show (which many games tend to do), it's simply a well-made puzzle game that you can enjoy without ever seeing the show.

Gameplay
Controls are good and fun to use. You manipulate the scenery around you to get past all of the obstacles, and so it's always good to have controls that are simple, and they are. The difficulty isn't in the controls at all- it's all in knowing what to do.

You get to take control of Goofy and/or Max in a 1-2 player mode. While it does involve dueling with the pirates, it's mostly about the puzzles. The puzzles are all about manipulating the landscape and the objects lying around to open doors and cross the gaps. Having a 2 player option, you'd think co-op would be easier, but it's really not. It's designed to take even MORE effort if you add a second player to the mix. It's a kids game, so while the puzzles can be very hard, none of them are the kind where messing up will kill you, and leaving the room always resets the puzzle.

Storyline
The storyline is simple, and doesn't really do much except set up the theme of the entire game. Goofy, Max, Pete and PJ were all out fishing when a giant pirate ship appears and captures Pete and PJ. Max and Goofy must save them from the clutches of the pirate at any cost!

In this way, they set up the aquatic-like themes and the pirate enemies. Of course we culminate the story on the pirate ship as well, but that's only the final level.

Graphics and Sound
Nothing special. Compared to the other disney games around (How about Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse), the graphics are pretty much average. Sound, too- nothing impressive, but not BAD, either.

Goof Troop was not a good disney production, and as such it really shouldn't have gotten its own game... BUT, the game that came out of it was (surprisingly) not all that bad, so I guess there's not much to complain about.
