The Hunt for Red October
Review by XtremeGundamX
"Could it get any better???"
Well this game has its share of problems. The graphics are average in this game but the music doesn’t seen to match the game. Most of the music is cheerful and happy. All of the music in this game is like that is should be right in between dark and gloomy. The game sounds are all very detailed and sound pretty good. You can hear the sound of your missiles being fired or the impact of them. The game is pretty detailed but how detailed can it be, you’re in the ocean. All of the enemy’s subs and airplanes are very detailed and look neat. The game is also very very hard. The game is filled with enemies all over. Different types ranging from helicopters to subs. The game is a nice game if it could have possibly been a little easier with fewer enemies to defend all at once. And the bad part is you have limited quanities of ammo and the only way you get more is if you get these little things that look like balloons under water. Their not very hard to get it’s just trying to get them without being killed.
GAMEPLAY **8**
The submarine is fairly simple to controll and sometimes its hard to stop so you ram into enemies. Most of the firing of you weapons are very easy. On button shoots missiles up out of the water another shoots them straight forwar another shoots them in and arc motio and another one just drops the missile from the bottom of the sub. Sometimes you’ll get confused for which button does which. If you play it enough you should get use to it. The game seems pretty responsive most of the time except for the controlling of the sub.
SOUND / MUSIC **7**
The music in this game doesn’t fit with the theme of this game. They make everything seem happy when your getting shot at by a trillion different enemies. The music sounds good but it doesn’t match the games description. The sounds are all there. The sound of you firing a missile and the sound of you making impact with another sub is pretty good but not the best.
GRAPHICS / LEVEL DESIGN **7**
The graphics in this game are pretty good looking although sometimes your sub looks mis shapened. The graphics are very well done. They are mostly smooth and look pretty good. The levels seem a little bare with nothing really in the background besides the ocean blue. The only highly detailed part of a level is at the end or when your in a cave. Other than that there isn’t much to look at.
REPLAYABILITY **6**
Theres only like 5 or 6 missions in this game and there all very hard to beat. The replayability is low due to the fact that this game has only one mode and it’s a hard game. The developers should have added a 2 player death match where you battle it out in your sub or your choice and your could choose your own weapons. The game suffers in this part because it has only one mode of play and this game should provide some head aches from not being able to beat it.
CHALLENGE **10**
Well this game shares the characteristics of many Super Nintendo games, very hard. This game may only have 5 or 6 missions but it will take you longer to beat than Super Mario World. The game is very hard due to the fact that there can be so many enemies on the screen at once. The game should challenge you to your limits. I don’t think anyone could beat this game. Its just to hard.
BUY OR RENT
Well this game has its fair share of problems but I suggest you rent it for the weekend and that should be enough for you.
