Wario's Woods
Review by last343
"Not quite the best puzzle game at the time, compared to Bust a Move Series, but still a good time killer!"
Now, back when I was 5 or 6, I used to play this game all the time with my older sister to see who was better at gaming, I would usually lose, due to my young age. As I grew, I played the game more and more until I beat the Final Stage against Wario. My older sister, who is now 21, congratulated me on my win. Then she challenge me to a match, I totally OWNED her at it. She got pissed, but kept her cool and started to yell in the other room. I felt superior to her. Now she is a wanna-be person, but I feel like I'm the fault of that. Anyway, enough of me, let's hear some details about the game!
Wario's Woods is a puzzle game similar to the puzzle games of today like Bust a Move and Dr. Mario. In the game, you play as a toad from the Mario Bros Series to try and stop Wario in his own domain, his woods. In Story Mode, you go through many stages of blasting colored balls into other colored balls to make them disappear, you have to survive the entire stage to win with exceptions of boss/enemy battles. Enemy battles are against enemies that want to end your quest to stop Wario, they are usually Goombas or koopas. Boss battles are against what I like to call, Wario's "Private Guard." They are storyline characters who must be defeated to go on. When you get to the Final Stage, you face big bad Wario himself, he ain't no piece of cake. After you beat him, you can call yourself, "The baddest Toad around!"
After you have conquered Wario and his men, you could also try and beat the game in a Time-Attack mode. In Time-Attack Mode, you are given a certain amount of time to complete a stage. If you run out of time, you lose and have to start over. When you beat Time-Attack Mode, you are given another challenge to beat the game in a certain amount of time, if you lose that, you start the game over. When you beat that, you could face your friends and become the best player on the block you winner, but can you beat me?
If I give this game a score, it would have to be 6 because it has great values and is a good time killer, but the story is too straightforward and why play as Toad when there is Mario and Luigi that can be brought in to the mix and be the heroes!
Overall: 6
Rent or Buy- Since I doubt anyone will let you rent this old game, you either buy or you don't. If you are a fan of the Mario Series and like puzzle games, I guess you could buy it. I bought it and enjoyed, you probably could too.
