"Play for the Ultimate prize.....Your life!"
Hey all welcome to my first review for this super fun game, Super Smash! Tv. Super Smash Tv is an updated version of the nes classic, Smash TV. As with all updated games, the developers have put in better graphics, sounds, and controls. Its raw action and crazy antics are very addicting and will keep you and your friends coming for more and more.
Story: 8
The year is 1999, the most popular form of television remains the gameshow.....blah,blah,blah. Basically, You are a contestant on the hit show, Smash! TV, where you play for "BIG MONEY" and "BIG PRIZES". The prizes include toasters, 2600' Tvs, dream vacations, food, gold and silver, and of course plain old cold cash. Throughout the game you smash and mash your way through, fighting hoards of enemies, including some bosses, until you reach the end where you will be the envy of all with all of the big money and big prizes you collected along the way, not to mention those gameshow babes.....
Game play: 10
Definitely the fine point of the game, you play as the contestant going through each of the levels, your view is an overhead Birdseye view, kinda like Zelda. Each room will have 4 doors each on one side, North, East, South, and West, and out of the these doors the mobs of enemies will rush out and try to take you down, grabbing all of the prizes, money, and power-ups while you try and blow them all to smithereens with your assortment of weapons ranging from the grenade launcher, rocket launcher, spread shot, and grenade lobber, to your standard hand gun, and of course at the end of each map there will be a big boss begging to be egged with explosives.
Sound: 8
There are not many songs in this game but the ones that are fit the atmosphere perfectly, they sound just like real gameshow themes, real showcasey. The sound effects of the guns and enemies are cool, pretty realistic, from the grunts to the blasting of enemies. Another cool feature is the speech of the characters, ranging from the funny phrases of the host (TOTAL CARNAGE, I LOVE IT, I"D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR) to the grunts of your enemies( NO WAY!), to the contestants Bodacious words (DUDE!, BINGO!). The sounds do get a bit repetitive after a while, but it wont matter much as you will be too in the games intense action, trying to stay alive. Overall the sound isn't that great but I give it an extra point for the funny voices.
Graphics: 7
The graphics in this game are a lot better then its Nes counterpart, more colorful and detailed backgrounds. The animation of the chars are pretty simple, just their legs moving and attacks, the chars are not that greatly detailed, but the big bosses are pretty decent, such as the scar face boss blinking and frowning, and getting his face messed up. Other effects include
explosions, such as the enemies blowing up in a pile of blood and the bosses going up in flames. The graphics in the game are not the best for the Snes but they suffice for the number of enemies they have to put on the screen.
Controls: 9
The controls of the game are pretty straight forward, move with the directional pad and shoot with the buttons. A shoots right, B shoots down, Y shoots left, and X shoots up, combine two buttons to shoot in a diagonal direction (EX: A B shoots south-east). Controls in the game should not prove too difficult for a person who is used to playing games.
Replay Value: 8
This game is great with a friend, even after you beat it, you can compete with your friend to see how high of a score you can get or how fast you can beat it. This game is always good if you just want a quick fix of action.
Buy/Rent: I don't think you can rent this game anymore, but I think it is available on other platforms and arcade, so just go to a fleamarket or old game score and buy it.
Overall: 9
This game is just great, pure action, even though the graphics and sound may not as good as some other Snes games, the gameplay more then makes up for it. So if you are looking for a fun, classic action game, go pick up Super Smash! Tv for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, in the words of the Host with the Most , "I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR!".
