Tetris Attack
Review by Solo_
"This puzzle game will draw you in."
Tetris Attack is perhaps one of the least detailed yet funnest games of any system I've ever played. It's based on one thing, and one thing alone: Gameplay. Tetris Attack isn't exactly as the name suggests, being fairly different to the ol' Tetris on NES and Gameboy. Instead of filling full rows of blocks, you must align three like-design blocks horizontally or vertically, and they will dissapear. Continue to do this until you pummel your opponent in the VS. mode by landing combos and skill chains, or until your time runs out in Time Attack mode. Or, until you've killed off enough blocks in the Level Completetion mode, the possiblities seem endless.
Graphics: (4/10) This game wasn't made for you to admire it's eye candy, because it doesn't really have any. Some of the backgrounds are nice as you are playing, but aren't really a concern. The blocks are simple squares with a shape on them, whether it be a star or a rectangle. Graphics aren't going to take this game far.
Sound: (5/10) As with the graphics, the sound isn't one of the more important parts of the game, and it's a good thing, because they aren't that impressive. The only sounds you'll here are the cheery music that will soon become more of an annoyance, and the repetitive noise of the blocks falling and disappearing as you score combos.
Storyline: (x/10) This is a puzzle game. It doesn't have a true storyline, but in the Vs. mode against the computer, it provides a semi-story. Bowser has captured a bunch of goofy characters and put them under his spell, so you have to beat them at the puzzle game to save them. Not exactly a sure-hit, but it gets the job done.
Gameplay and Controls: (10/10) Ah, here's the reason for trying this game out. The controls are just the controller pad and one button, so they aren't much for being concerened about. But the gameplay is the important part; this is one of the most addicting games you could ask for.
Fun Factor: (9/10) See gameplay. It's addicting.
Challenge: (7/10) This game can be pretty hard in the later rounds of the Vs. mode against the computer, but the more fun challenges are probably going to come against friends in the 2-player modes.
Overall: (9/10) While not the prettiest game ever created, it's simple gameplay makes it one of the funnest puzzle games around, following in the foot steps of earlier Tetris games.
Buying Factor:(5/10) It's simple. If you like puzzle games, buy it. If you're not THAT into them, then rent it.
