Super Adventure Island
Review by __EmuzMan__
"Nothing amazing, but a very fun game."
Introduction:
Super Adventure Island does nothing that we haven't seen before, but that doesn't make it any less fun. This game stays true to the earlier titles of the series. You play as Master Higgins, the island man. The game is a 2d side-scroller in which you move from left to right, fighting enemies and maneuvering yourself around rocks, fire, water and anything that's in your way.
Gameplay: 9/10
As previously stated, this is a 2d side-scroller. Your main weapons consist of tomahawks and boomerangs. You can throw these at enemies who are in your way. You can also use skateboards and other things to get around. All in all, this game doesn't shock us, but nobody I know can get enough of this game.
Story: 5/10
This game's story is actually very confusing. You play as Master Higgins. In the beginning of the game, your girlfriend gets stolen by some evil-doers. From what I gathered, you have to go out and find her. I know this isn't a great summary, but it's very obvious what this game was focused on--the gameplay.
Graphics: 8/10
There are some very nice backgrounds in this game, but nothing very impressive. You can tell what's going on, which is all I really need to know. You might get a but annoyed at the construction of the enemies, but I don't know anyone that's complained about the graphics portion of this game.
Sound: 10/10
The music on this game is extremely memorable. I can still hum the themes of a couple of levels today! The sound effects are impressive, as well. You can hear the items coming out of Master Higgins' hands and you'll hear a "THWAP!" when they get hit. These were some impressive sounds compared to other games for the SNES.
Replayability: 10/10
I still play this game at least 3 hours every week. It hasn't lost it's fun and obviously hasn't got boring. You'll find yourself randomly getting the urge to play this game in short 30 minute bursts.
Overall: 8/10
If you have a SNES, then I recommend that you pick up this game. It goes for about 3 bucks at game stores, which definitely makes it worth the price.
