"As far as the SNES obscure games go, this one is "Psycho sonic""
Note: My rating scale may be different than others. On my scale, 5 is average, 7 is very decent, and 10 is perfect
I first found this game at a garage sell my friend's mom was having; him being such a good friend, h let me have it for free. I was drawn in by the title "X-Caliber" seeing as how I just learned about King Arthur and Lancelot in elementary school and was very fascinated by that legend and swords. Its nothing like the medieval legend.
Concept
The concept of this game is to go through levels defeating weird enemies, robots, and other monsters. Its a hack n slash that uses only 3 sword moves, and you fight a special boss at the end of each area.
Story
Barely has a story. It has a prologue in the beginning, and then jumps right into the story of a guy trying to hunt down the person who killed his brother or something like that. Its not deep at all but at least it tries!
Control
The control of this game is very simple, you press A or B to do certain sword moves, and R or L to shoot out a sword wave. Regardless, its always cool to watch the animation of the guys dying once you do an amazing sword move, even though it only has three.
Music
IIRC, PsykoSonik did the music for this game. They're a techno group, so most of the songs on this game are techno. They're entertaining to say the least, but nothing short of miraculous.
Replayability
I've been playing this game for years. Its a great way to kill 30 minutes and yes thats how long it is. There are different difficulty settings if you think you're good enough to move it from normal to hard, or if you're like me and like to just go through it, normal to easy. It even has Very easy for the beginners, and very hard for the experts, which IMO is WAY too hard.
overall
This game is pretty amazing, and for it being my first Hack N Slash it really made a good impression. Its not the best, but it is one of the most underrated SNES games out there. IT pretty cheap if you run across it, so why not try picking it up. It has decent music, a watered-down story, amazing replayability, and just has the classic SNES feel.
